Dalton Pompey, Toronto Blue Jays prospect with the Class-A Lansing Lugnuts, was named the MVP of the Midwest League All Star Game on Tuesday, leading the Eastern Division squad to a 6-5 victory over the Western Division at Fifth Third Field in Dayton, Ohio (home of the Dayton Reds).Pompey drove in the winning run in the bottom of the ninth inning, an RBI single that scored Brandon Drury, highlighting a 1-for-2 performance in which Pompey came into the game as a substitute for Tampa Bay prospect Andrew Toles.A 16th round draft pick by the Blue Jays in the 2010 MLB Amateur Draft out of John Fraser High School (Ontario, Canada), Pompey has had a rather sub-par showing in three seasons between Rookie League and Class-A ball.In 60 games with the Lugnuts this season, Pompey has batted .243 (56-for-230) with 20 RBI and 22 stolen bases, as the speedy outfielder has displayed his quick feet, having only been caught stealing twice and leggeing out seven triples on the season.Last year’s top draft prospects, Byron Buxton and Carlos Correa led off for the Western Division, wherein the Astros’ first-overall pick, Correa, went 2-for-3 while Buxton was less successful, going 0-for-3 in the Western Division’s losing effort. In all, the game featured 19 hits between both teams, only three of which were extra-base hits. It would be one of the 16 base-hits that would decide the contest, as Pompey sliced his RBI single to bring home the victory for Western Division squad.
