Freese suffered a cut from the cleats of Norichika Aoki during a run down in the first inning. He was able to stay in the game and ended the day with two hits. The Cardinals expect Freese to be fine going forward according to the St. Louis Dispatch. This season Freese is hitting just .223/.292/.282 with a home run and nine RBI in 30 games. It was a big series against the Breweres for Freese as he hit a grand slam in Friday’s win and played catch with WWE stars The Bella Twins.

Cardinals play service time game with Michael Wacha. Tyler Lyons to start on Wednesday

Yes, even contenders are concerned about service time when it comes to their top prospects.  Its why players like Stephen Strasburg are kept in the minors until mid-June so that they do not qualify for Super Two status. The Cardinals appear to be playing that game as well with Michael Wacha. With an injury to Jaime Garcia, the Cards are calling upon little-known and not very highly...

Who should start for St. Louis in Garcia’s spot?

With Jaime Garcia’s shoulder pushing him onto the disabled list, the St. Louis Cardinals do not have a starting pitcher for their series finale in San Diego on Wednesday night, May 22. With its top-ranked farm system strongest in pitching in and close to the majors, the problem is located in the organization’s most optimal area to try to address. While there are various options...

Mitchell Boggs Is Mike Matheny's Sylvia Rosen

Let me get this straight... use new guys that aren't Fernando Salas and Mitchell Boggs and win a bunch of games. Use guys that are Fernando Salas and Mitchell Boggs and lose a bunch of games.  If you're Mike Matheny, what do you do? What. Do. You. Do? Let's establish that the Cardinals offense was mitigated by Jason Marquis. (Yes, THE Jason Marquis). 2 runs aren...

Cardinals' Jaime Garcia to see Dr. Andrews

He's a great doctor, but anytime his name is associated with a player's name, it's generally bad news.  This time, that bad news is hanging around Jaime Garcia.  The St. Louis Cardinals' veteran starter was just recently placed on the disabled list with a shoulder strain.  Now, it seems that strain may be more serious as Garcia intends to see Dr. James Andrews...

Cardinals' Jaime Garcia placed on the DL

The St. Louis Cardinals are dealing with yet another injured pitcher.  Jaime Garcia was placed on the 15-day disabled list yesterday.  The 26-year old pitcher has suffered a shoulder strain, and he and the team are concerned the injury could be even more significant than originally thought. According to Jennifer Langosch of MLB.com, there is a possibility that Garcia may need...

After he was recently cleared to resume a throwing program, St. Louis Cardinals right-handed starting pitcher Jake Westbrook made 25 throws from 60 feet yesterday, according to Jenifer Langosch and Chad Thornburg of MLB.com. Following the session, Westbrook said "it went well," adding that his elbow "feels a lot better." The veteran was placed on the disabled...

The cowardice of Twitter users claims another

I had long found it interesting that the two individuals who had been considered the primary candidates for the vaunted title of St. Louis Cardinals “closer of the future” back in 2009 have been among Major League Baseball’s most prominent Twitter users – until now. A trade to Cleveland took Chris Perez out of the Birds on the Bat and into an Indians uniform, but I continue...

Edward Mujica: The Other One Pitch Closer

Mariano Rivera is the best relief pitcher of all time, and his 20 year run of greatness has mostly been fueled by throwing one pitch. The dominance of Rivera’s cut fastball has been well documented, and you likely know that when the Yankees have the lead in the 9th inning, opponents are going to see cutter after cutter after cutter. But, now, over in St. Louis, Rivera has an...
