Here come the naysayers. You can almost see them poking their heads around corners, maybe out of small holes in the ground like ground hogs. They're already reminding you that they told you so. The World Baseball Classic is a bad idea. Players get injured before the season.
David Wright will now be these people's poster boy, even if he doesn't want to be. Wright wanted to play in Team USA's last two games. He wasn't allowed to. Now, according to Adam Rubin of ESPN New York, the Mets may start Wright on the disabled list. The decision seems like it would be more precautionary than anything, but it still fuels those who don't think the WBC is worth the risks.
Wright was scratched from Thursday night's matchup against the Diminucan Republic. He was evaluated by Mets' trainers and held out of last night's game against Puerto Rico. Had the U.S. advanced, Wright would have been replaced by Chase Headley of the Padres.
