New York Mets
Flushing—Ike Davis homered twice including a walk off in the ninth and Jeremy Hefner pitched a beauty of an outing to lead the New York Mets (59-69) to a 2-1 victory over the Houston Astros (40-88). The Mets took two out of three from the Astros for only their second series win of the second half and first at home since early July.
Jeremy Hefner was fantastic today. He pitched eight innings of shutout ball and Terry Collins sent him out there with 99 pitches under his belt to start the ninth and complete the shutout. He couldn’t get the job done as Lucas Duda dropped a slicing ball in left field which led to an RBI double by Marwin Gonzalez to tie the game. Hefner finished off with a no-decision on the day. His final line was eight innings, one run on five hits and one walk.
Ike Davis clobbered a cutter from Astros starter Lucas Harrell in the fourth inning to give the Mets a 1-0 lead. There was no doubt about it as the ball landed about ten rows back into the Pepsi Porch. For his ...

Ike Davis stepped to the plate in the bottom of the ninth on Sunday afternoon with no one on and one out. After taking one practice swing, Davis stepped into the batter’s box and hit the first pitch he saw from Astros reliever Wilton Lopez.
When Davis hit it, you could tell he thought it was gone as he gazed at it before starting to run to first. However upon second review...
NEW YORK -- Ike Davis watched the ball fly out to right, getting nervous as it hit the top of the wall before bouncing over for a game-winning home run in the bottom of the ninth. Davis' second home run of the game gave the Mets a 2-1 win over the Houston Astros on Sunday, as New York answered Houston's ninth-inning run with one of its own. After the game, Davis acknowledged...
For a guy who was waived twice following the 2011 season, Jeremy Hefner has been quite a productive pitcher in 2012 for the Mets. Sunday, Hefner pitched into the ninth inning and ended up with a no-decision in a game where he pitched well enough to win. His final line was 8 IP, 5 H, 1 ER, 1 BB and 7 Ks.
The pessimists can claim that Hefner did that against the Astros, a team that...
Ike Davis hit his second homer of the day with one out in the ninth inning soon after Lucas Duda cut a runner down at the plate, lifting the New York Mets to their first series win at home since early July, 2-1 over the Houston Astros on Sunday.

Some might think it was a bit over the top for Ike Davis to do a little pirouette in the air to punctuate his walk-off dinger on Sunday. After all, nobody should be thumping their chest after just barely beating the Astros by the skin of their teeth. Me, I'm just glad he didn't wreck ligaments in his ankle. You know that just by wearing the Mets uniform you're more susceptible...
Ike Davis blasted a walk-off homer in the ninth to give the Mets a 2-1 win over the Houston Astros on Sunday at Citi Field. The Mets take the series two game to one and cap off a two and five homestand.
Jeremy Hefner got the start and delivered a spectacular performance that richly merited a win, but the young righthander did not figure into the decision despite pitching into the...

Mets look for their first two-game winning streak since they beat the Giants in back-to-back games August 1st and 2nd. Jeremy Hefner takes the mound for the 1:10 start.

This afternoon the Mets take on the Astros in the rubber game of their 3-game series. The play in this series has been downright dreadful, but we’re baseball fans. So we will watch…if you don’t have Cablevision. Today’s 1:10 pm game will not be seen on Cablevision again, due to their spat with the hedge fund people involved with WPIX. Oh well. But I was actually...
