After an off season in which there was much talk about how well the White Sox do staying healthy - exponentially more so than most MLB teams - that good fortune has not been the case early on in 2013, as Dayan Viciedo becomes the fifth member of the squad to hit the disabled list. When he was hitting this past Thursday in Toronto, Viciedo strained his oblique with one of his vicious swings; something that many have said was bound to happen sooner or later considering how hard 'Tank' swings at nearly every pitch he sees. Luckily, the team doesn't think it's going to be an injury that takes him too long to get over, as he was initially diagnosed as day-to-day. If he can indeed come back in just about two weeks (placed on the DL retroactive to Friday, April 19) and can come back hot, then this shouldn't have too big of an impact on the team in the long-run. But if it does linger, as we all know that injuries in baseball sometimes do, then it'll become a big problem area. Because of the injury, the team called up outfielder Blake Tekotte from AAA Charlotte. Manager Robin Ventura now has three options to fill in for Tank: Tekotte, Jordan Danks, and DeWayne Wise. It's pretty clear that he'll just go with the hottest bat in the fill-in role. All three guys play good defense and hit from the left side, which could help the team improve a couple of their early-season dilemmas.
