In almost an identical match to last night’s affair, the Baltimore Orioles defeated the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim 3-2, in a defensive web gem style of a night. Mike Trout went back-to-back days with a solo home run, today in the fourth inning, for his 12th of the season, and eighth of his career against the Orioles. Trout only went 1-for-4 on the day, but was victim to two defensive plays, possibly robbing him of a potential 3-for-4 day. The Orioles’ offense came mostly from the bat Nick Markakis who had a 2-for-4 day with a pair of RBIs that came on a two-out single in the bottom of seventh giving the Orioles’ what would be the winning runs. Not only did Markakis have the best night from offensive players from both teams, but also had a spectacular leaping catch in foul territory in the top of the sixth, on a Mike Trout pop fly. The night was filled with great defensive plays from a few separate players. Mark Trumbo had a great backhanded sliding catch, Markakis had his great f...

Los Angeles Angels Peter Bourjos with a Highlight Reel Catch

Check out Peter Bourjos' amazing catch as he went up and over the centerfield fence to rob J.J. Hardy of a home run in tonight's contest against the Baltimore Orioles. Mike Trout robbed Hardy of a home run last season in Baltimore and it became the catch of the year. The Angels even put together a poster of Trout's catch and gave it away to the fans in attendance on...

Angels activate Bourjos from DL

The Los Angeles Angels have activated outfielder Peter Bourjos from the 15-day disabled list, a move that will shift All-Star Mike Trout to left field when Bourjos is in the lineup. Bourjos, who missed 38 games with a left hamstring strain, was in the starting lineup Monday night against the Orioles. He was hitting .313 with two homers and eight RBIs before his injury Angels manager...

Angels place Robert Coello on DL with shoulder inflammation

The Los Angeles Angels placed right-handed reliever Robert Coello on the 15-day disabled list yesterday due to inflammation in his throwing shoulder, according to Mike DiGiovanna of The Los Angeles Times. Coello was nearly unhittable in his first 11 appearances for the Angels, posting an ERA of 0.68 over that span. However, he's been hit hard in his last two outings, getting...

Trade Candidate: Jason Vargas

The Angels are 10 games under .500. They are 11.5 games back in the division and 9.5 games back in the Wild Card race. Baseball Prospectus and Coolstandings.com each give the Angels a roughly 5% to 7% chance of earning a playoff berth. Go ahead and cling to that hope if you want. We here at Monkey with a Halo would be ecstatic if they somehow pulled that off, but we are also realistic...

Angels' Joe Blanton to miss next start due to struggles

Angels' starting pitcher Joe Blanton (1-10) will miss his next start which was scheduled this weekend versus the New York Yankees. The nine-year veteran has a 5.87 ERA through his first 13 starts in an Angels' uniform. According to the LA Times, Mike Scioscia did not specify how long Blanton's hiatus will be, but did say that he will "push him back a couple...

GIF: Peter Bourjos makes amazing catch to rob J.J. Hardy of home run

Tweet   When Los Angeles Angels manager Mike Scioscia fills out his lineup card and inserts the name Peter Bourjos he doesn’t necessarily do so for offensive purposes. That’s what Albert Pujols, Mark Trumbo, Mike Trout, and Josh Hamilton are for. Bourjos’ defensive capabilities are good enough to shift Trout, pretty impressive with the glove [...]

Why I Still Watch the Games

By David Saltzer, AngelsWin.com Senior Writer -  Chuck Richter started a thread on www.AngelsWin.com about why he’s still watching Angels games this year. In his opinion, it’s about watching individual players: Bourjos stealing a homerun; watching Trout develop; Trumbo launching a bomb; Weaver possibly throwing another no-hitter; Kendrick competing for a batting title, etc...

Orioles 3, Angels 2

Miguel Gonzalez allowed one run over eight innings and Nick Markakis hit a tiebreaking, two-run single in the seventh inning as the Baltimore Orioles beat the Los Angeles Angels 3-2 Tuesday night. Light-hitting Ryan Flaherty contributed two well-timed hits for the Orioles, whose third straight victory put them a season-high nine games over .500 (37-28). Baltimore will seek to complete...

Angels get comeback win over O's

The perplexing struggle of Pedro Strop goes on, the Baltimore Orioles can only hope the problem will soon be corrected. Strop was summoned from the bullpen Wednesday with the Orioles nursing a two-run lead against the Los Angeles Angels. The right-hander faced five batters, retired only one and left with Baltimore down by two in what turned into a 9-5 loss Wednesday. After shining...

Inside Edge: Grading Dipoto’s Offseason Pitching Moves

By Greg Bird, AngelsWin.com Staff Writer -  Let me start the train of articles pointing the finger at who’s to blame for this Halo mess. The season looks bleak and long at this point. Everything seems to be going wrong and I mean everything. The question is could the Angels have done things differently and changed their fortunes? I want to look back at the offseason pitching...

Not good enough; Angels fall to the Orioles, 3-2

The Angels continue to confound with their winless ways. They pitched well, they played remarkable, stunning, jaw-dropping defense, and still couldn't defeat the Baltimore Orioles. Starter Jason Vargas pitched as well as he could've. Peter Bourjos, fresh off the DL, showed just why he is in centerfield instead of Mike Trout, robbing JJ Hardy (the same guy Trout robbed last...
