Outfielder Delmon Young has been activated from the 15-day disabled list by the Philadelphia Phillies after missing the first 26 games because of offseason surgery on his right ankle.
Young is batting fifth and is the designated hitter Tuesday against Cleveland. Phillies manager Charlie Manuel said Young, who primarily was a designated hitter last season with Detroit, likely will play right field Wednesday in the finale of the two-game series.
Young, who had the surgery in November, completed a minor league rehabilitation assignment in which he hit .367 with no homers and two RBIs. He played right field in those games.
In addition to his $750,000 base salary, Young earned a $250,000 bonus for his first day on the active 25-man roster.
Outfielder Ezequiel Carrera, who was hitting .077 in 13 games, was designated for assignment.

Reading manager Dusty Wathan
In his second year with the team, former pro catcher Dusty Wathan has led the Double-A Reading Fightin Phillies to a 12-10 record thus far in the early going.
After his 14-year playing career, Wathan began the next leg of his career, managing, with the short-season Williamsport Crosscutters in the Phillies organization in 2008. Since then, the son of...
Expect to see Delmon Young in the lineup tonight in Cleveland.
As was reported first by CSN Philly’s Jim Salisbury on Twitter, Delmon Young has been activated by the Phillies and will join them for their series opener tonight in Cleveland. With the Phillies able to utilize the designated hitter in the American League ballpark, expect Young to be in the lineup tonight. In a...
Roy “Doc“ Halladay has struggled to start 2013
From 2002 until the beginning of the 2012 MLB season, when you wanted to define what exactly is an Ace pitcher, you looked no further than Roy Halladay. Halladay, or very commonly known as “Doc” was the cream of the crop when it came to starting pitchers. For 7 straight seasons (2003-2009), Halladay was the Opening Day starter...
Stats and recap of the Phillies in April 2013
Feeling down about the Phillies on a miserable Monday? If you are a glass half-empty kind of guy, you might take pleasure in knowing that some former Phils are having really bad seasons. Just to give you a basis for the truly alarming numbers you are about to see, keep in mind that the league average for WHIP is 1.31 and Chad Qualls had a 1.53 WHIP last season for the Phils.

According to CSN Philly's Jim Salisbury, outfielder Delmon Young is headed to Cleveland, where the Phillies are about to begin a two-game series. Presumably Young could serve as the team's designated hitter and ease his way back into play. Young's rehab stint clock is far from forcing him to the...
Philadelphia Phillies (12-14) at Cleveland Indians (?-?)
Series 9, Games 24 and 25
Progressive Field, Cleveland: 1.061, Hitters park
Heading into this season, the Phillies are caught in an in-between state and like the Indians, should rebuild in my opinion. No matter what happened last year, the presence of Hamels, Halladay and Lee makes them...
The Phillies are coming off of a three-game sweep over the New York Mets this weekend, their first sweep of the year. With the offense surging, a day off yesterday certainely doesn't prove good timing, but as the Phillies enter tonight's ballgame at 12-14 they are looking to end the...
In last weekend’s edition of 3&3, I cautioned to watch out for a Dodger’s team that was struggling. That warning should have been extended to this weekend’s series with the Phillies as well. Against two teams that have been struggling, our Mets finished 1-5. Looks like our team is fast becoming a cure to another team’s slump.
