New York Yankees shortstop Derek Jeter donned a uniform at Yankees Stadium on Wednesday afternoon, but he’s not close to returning to action. The 38-year-old had the boot removed from his surgically repaired left ankle and played catch before the Yankees took on the New York Mets. Jeter re-fractured the ankle in spring training, after originally breaking it during last year’s postseason. Jeter had the boot removed last Friday and was recently cleared to throw. He is scheduled to undergo a CT scan sometime next week and hopes to be cleared for additional baseball activities, like swinging a bat. The 13-time All-Star will turn 39 next month and there’s no timetable for his return. The Yankees have said he will be out at least until after the All-Star break in mid-July. Jeter originally broke the ankle during Game 1 of the American League Championship Series last October. He was healed enough to take part in a few spring training games but has been inactive since March 23 when he re-f...

Granderson is all smiles after his donationCredit: Roberta Dupuis-Devlin/UIC Photo As if Curtis Granderson needed anything more on his resume of being known as one of the “good guys” of baseball, he padded it anyway.  Probably doesn’t even care if he gets publicity.  The New York Yankees outfielder donated $5M to the University of Illinois – Chicago to upgrade their stadium...

New York Yankees starting corner infielders, Mark Teixeira and Kevin Youkilis are both due to come off the Disabled list on Friday for the series opener against the Red Sox.The timing is a best case scenario since both can bat right-handed and Boston will be throwing back-to-back lefties against New York Yankees suddenly anemic lineup. For New York, it will have to approach roster...

Brian Cashman told Meredith Marakovits of YES that the plan is for left-handed starting pitcher Andy Pettitte to be activated from the disabled list to make his return sometime early next week during the team's series against the Cleveland Indians. Brett Gardner Robs Daniel Murphy of Extra-Base Hit for Second Night in Row With Catch at Wall (Video)

Daniel Murphy may have the best batting average on the New York Mets’ roster right now, but the Yankees have his kryptonite in their center field. New York’s Brett Gardner has put together two highlight-reel catches in his last two games. Both were against the Mets, both were in the sixth inning, and both robbed Murphy of hits that would have gone for extra bases. (Then again...

Mariano Rivera blows save without getting an out for first time in his career

Do you know how awesome Mariano Rivera is? He’s so great that one of his worst outings ever is an opportunity to praise him. On Tuesday night at Citi Field, Rivera blew a save without recording an out for the first time in his career. Rivera is 43 years old and has been pitching since [...]

New York Mets win leads to the most shocking stats of Rivera’s career

We were not only shocked to see the New York Mets defeat the New York Yankees with Mariano Rivera on the mound, but in the way that they did. The Yankees managed to score the lone run of the game heading into the bottom of the ninth, and held a 1-0 lead. Rivera, who was perfect on the year in save opportunities, just one year after tearing his ACL, gave up three straight hits and...

Five Days Later, The Batting Dead: Run, everybody, the Yankee Apocalypse has begun

You passed out in the wild party, after Overbay's HR beat Tampa. You wake up in an empty clubhouse, the lockers and showers horribly smeared with chalk and pine tar.  Outside, on the field, a roving horde of Yankees seems to be feeding on something. You climb the dugout steps for a better look. My God, it's the carcass of Joe Girardi! One of them sees you. It's Vernon...

Mariano Rivera Blows Save in Subway Series Match-up

In the final season of his storied career, New York Yankees closer Mariano Rivera has pitched one of his best seasons to date. However, Tuesday night’s match-up against crosstown rival New York Mets would serve as the first major setback for the future hall of famer this season. With a 1-0 lead heading into the ninth inning, Rivera entered the game and surrendered a ground rule...

Watching the New York Mets Beat Mariano Rivera

I’m not a fan of the increased inter-league play happening throughout the 2013 season. However, I’ve always enjoyed watching the New York Mets and New York Yankees face each other in the Subway Series. This match-up is one I look for each year when the schedule is released. Despite the Mets owning an all-time record of 38-54 against the Bronx Bombers, it’s still exciting to...

Some might have predicted a Subway Series sweep – but by the Yankees, not the Mets. It may not mean anything to the Baseball world at large but this series meant everything to the Mets and their fans. This was supposed...

Subway Series Game 3: Mets rule the rails

The Mets clinched the 2013 Subway Series with a 9-4 thumping of the Yankees. Starter David Phelps only managed one more out than Mariano Rivera had in Tuesday night's loss. It was only the third time since May 3 the Mets had scored as many as five runs in a game. Jeremy Hefner was 0-5 going into the game, including two losses to the lowly Marlins. The Mets were 0-10 in games...
