MLB Injury News:
New York Yankees' shortstop Derek Jeter resumed baseball activities on Friday at the Yankees' Minor League complex.
As reported by Adam Berry at MLB.com,
"Jeter was examined Thursday in Charlotte, N.C., by Dr. Robert Anderson,
who performed the initial surgery last October on Jeter's fractured left
ankle. The Yankees said in a statement Thursday that Jeter's ankle is
"healing," an encouraging development for Jeter after being held back by
another fracture during Spring Training."
Jeter played catch, fielded grounders at shortstop and hit in the batting cage in his first workout since being cleared by the doctors to resume baseball activities.
Although Jeter is hesitant to set a timetable for his return, the Yankees expect him to play at some point following the All-Star break.
In 2012, Derek Jeter batted .316 with 15 home runs and 58 runs batted in. For his career, Jeter has 3,304 hits, 255 home runs, 1,254 runs batted in, a .313 batting average and a .829 on base plus slugging percentage.

The 38-year-old Derek Jeter has been cleared to take part in baseball activities. Many Yankees fans will be glad to get the captain back. Even though the Yankees have done well with out him, Jeter always finds a way to add a spark to the Yankees line-up. Jeter hasn’t been able to play this season due to problems with his ankle. The question now becomes what do the Yankees do with...

The New York Yankees are in need of a shakeup at the major league level even if it is mainly on offense. The Yankees have an above average pitching staff but an anemic lineup, and with so many players headed to Free Agency, will need to make a lot of decisions as they approach the trade deadline. While players like Mariano Rivera, Andy Pettitte and Hiroki Kuroda represent no trade...
The New York Yankees have scored 16 runs in the last seven games and manager Joe Girardi has to be disheartened every time he fills out a lineup card with names like Neal, Brignac and Romine filling out the bottom of the batting order.
They haven't been helping themselves on the field either as second baseman David Adams spectacularly showed Friday night against the Los Angeles...
Happy Father’s Day!
The Yankees look to avoid yet another sweep this afternoon when they play the Angels. They will try and do so without Mark Teixeira, who was sent back to New York early to get his wrist examined. Teix re-aggrivated it yesterday and was removed from the game, obviously not good news for the team. Probably the best pitching matchup of the weekend, CC Sabathia...
Yankees first baseman Mark Teixeira has no new tears in the tendon sheath around his inflamed right wrist.
Teixeira got a cortisone shot Sunday. New York manager Joe Girardi says he will be re-evaluated next week.
Teixeira left the Yankees' 6-2 loss to the Los Angeles Angels on Saturday in the fourth inning. The Yankees sent him back to New York for evaluation on his problematic...
Kevin Youkilis just can't seem to shake his back problems. The New York Yankees were forced to place him back on the DL just two weeks after returning from a month on the DL with a lumbar strain. Mark Feinsand of the New York Daily News reports that this latest problem is from a different source, likely a nerve issue, which is causing numbness in his big toe and calf. Youkilis...
This may come as a shocker for most, but believe it or not even the mighty Yankees are having problems selling tickets.
With a wave of injuries to key players–Jeter, Teixeira, Arod, Granderson it’s not really a surprise that numbers are down, but what’s shocking is just how much they’ve slumped, despite the Yankees winning ways.
The Wall Street Journal reported:
In addition to being the most productive -- and most feared -- closer in the history of baseball, Yankees ninth-inning man Mariano Rivera has always been one of the game's class acts.
So it's no surprise that he's going out with grace in his final season in the bigs. As the 43-year-old embarks on his farewell tour in his final season in pinstripes, Rivera is making a...
For the second year in a row, there is tension between Robinson Cano and Billy Butler over the Home Run Derby. Cano was named captain of the AL Home Run Derby squad last year and upset Kansas City Royals fans by leaving Butler, the Royals’ top hitter, off the team. The All-Star Game was being [...]
It’s up to CC Sabathia (6-5, 4.07 ERA) to answer the Yankees prayers and stop the skid against the Angels and Jered Weaver (1-2, 3.77 ERA). Sabathia took a step back in his last start after 2 solid outings, allowing six runs (two homers) in a loss to the A’s. His fastball velocity has come back a bit, but he struggled with command in Oakland. “It’s disappointing. It’s definitely...
The trade deadline looms.Cashman and his crew of misguided staffers can yet build a fantasy that the Yankees can still win this thing. Now. This year. MO's last season. They can pony up any and all prospects ( I hesitate to name any, because losing Yankee minor league position players is not a big risk ), including some of the players ( mostly pitchers ) who have had a taste...
As New York Yankees closer Mariano Rivera continues his farewell tour across the Major League Baseball, he decided to pay his respect one member of the Oakland Athletics organization.
Oakland A's mailroom employee Julie Vasconcellos (who have worked from the A's for 20 years) got a special surprise from Mariano as he delivered a pizza to her.
