From Dan Martin:
The Yankees made Derek Lowe’s signing official Monday and the veteran right-hander is expected to be added to the bullpen for the series opener against the Rangers in The Bronx.

Ryota Igarashi was optioned to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes Barre to make room for Lowe on the roster.
Lowe, who went 8-10 with a 5.52 ERA in 21 starts with the Indians, will be used as a long reliever while David Phelps replaces CC in the rotation.

Derek Lowe Pitches Four Scoreless Innings, Earns Save in Yankees Debut

Derek Lowe's debut in pinstripes was a roaring success. The veteran right-hander, who was signed by the Yankees over the weekend, made his debut with New York on Monday night and was very impressive. Lowe worked four innings and earned the save in an 8-2 win over the Texas Rangers. The 39-year-old pitcher was happy with the debut, but he knows that it's just the first step...

Yankees sign Lowe for bullpen

The Yankees signed Derek Lowe to a major league contract on Monday and said they planned to use the right-hander in the bullpen. Lowe, a 39-year-old sinkerballer, has spent time as a reliever, but mostly has pitched in the rotation for various teams, most recently the Indians. Cleveland designated him for assignment on Aug. 2 and released him on Friday. Lowe has a 4.01 ERA in 655...

Lowe fires four scoreless innings in bullpen-saving Yanks debut

Derek Lowe spent his weekend thinking about how exciting it was going to be to get back on a major league mound after agreeing to terms with the New York Yankees. On Monday, he got that chance. Lowe pitched four scoreless innings to close out the Yankees' 8-2 win over the Texas Rangers, picking up his first save since 2001. "You just keep going, and every inning, they...

Yankees sign Derek Lowe

Right-hander Derek Lowe signed with the Yankees and is expected to join the team and be available out of the bullpen Monday night. Lowe, 39, was released by the Indians after going 8-10 with a 5.52 ERA in 119 innings pitched. The 16-year veteran started the season with a 3.06 ERA during his first 11 starts. However, he was 0-3 record with a 15.88 ERA in his final three starts before...

Yankees Sign Derek Lowe Amidst More Injuries To Beleaguered Pitching Staff

The New York Yankees are a very talented team. When you spend more money than anyone else on an annual basis, your team is generally going to be as talented as any other roster. Well, that is unless you are the Boston Red Sox. Clearly, spending as much as any other team does not always work. The Red Sox are living proof of that fact. But as good as the Yankees are once...

Yankees to Acquire Derek Lowe Yankees Acquire Derek Lowe The New York Yankees wasted no time finding another arm to pitch while C.C Sabathia is on the DL with elbow inflammation acquiring the 39 year old Derek Lowe. Lowe was pitching for the Cleveland Indians before being designated for assignment on Saturday. He wasn’t pitching very well for the Indians in their rotation going 8-10 with...

CC to the DL..... Yanks Sign Derek Lowe

So apparently a lot happened while I was eating an early dinner.... First, the Yankees announced that CC Sabathia is going on the 15-day DL with left elbow soreness. “As for our concern, it’s pretty low-level,” Joe Girardi said. Sabathia had his left arm iced before today’s game, which is not overly unusual for a pitcher. Girardi said pregame that it was a non-issue...

Phelps & Lowe Reign In Texas Rangers

On paper it didn't look like a good matchup for the Yankees: Rookie pitcher David Phelps up against what is arguably the best team in baseball. But the results last night proved once again that you have to play the games. Phelps only had about 80 pitches in him, and for a while, it looked as if he was going to throw them all before the end of the third inning. But he got through...

Derek Lowe Signed to Work Out of Bullpen for Yankees as New York Sends CC Sabathia to Disabled List

TORONTO -- CC Sabathia was placed on the 15-day disabled list Saturday with inflammation and pain in his left elbow, the New York Yankees ace's second trip to the DL this season. Manager Joe Girardi announced the decision after New York beat the Blue Jays 5-2 for their fourth straight win. The move is retroactive to Aug. 9. The Yankees have also agreed to a contract with free...

Can Derek Lowe Party Like It’s 2004?

You couldn’t ask more of Derek Lowe in his Yankees debut. With David Phelps limited to 80 pitches, Lowe was asked to come in and finish up the final four innings (0 runs, 2 hits, 4 strikeouts) in the Yankees 8-2 drubbing of the Texas Rangers at the Stadium. This is the same Derek Lowe that had an E.R.A of 5.52 and allowed 156 hits in 119 innings as a member of the Cleveland...

Yankees 8, Rangers 2

Nick Swisher hit a grand slam off Ryan Dempster and drove in five runs, Derek Lowe closed with four shutout innings in his Yankees debut and New York beat the Texas Rangers 8-2 Monday night. David Phelps, starting in place of injured ace CC Sabathia, picked off two runners and pitched a career-high five innings for the win. In the opener of a four-game series between the teams...
