The Yankees need a high-end starting pitcher desperately. Andy Pettitte has come out of retirement once before. So would the Yankees — in their time of need — call to see if the left-hander had any interest in coming out of retirement once again? “He has shut it down for good,” general manager Brian Cashman said Friday. “That door is closed.” Pettitte went 11-11 last season, finishing 21st in the AL in ERA at 3.74 — which actually was better than Red Sox ace Jon Lester (3.75). Nevertheless, at 41, he admitted late last year he no longer thought he could push his body through a full season, nor did he want to try any longer.

New York Yankees fill their lineup

A few days ago, I wrote about how the New York Yankees needed to address their second base situation for the first time in nine seasons. I talked about how the Yankees can’t afford to go into the season with Kelly Johnson as their everyday second baseman. Brian Roberts should provide some type of production at the 2B position (Derick E. Hingle – USA TODAY Sports) After losing...

Yankees rumors: New York could opt for in-house options to fill rotation

The New York Yankees opened the off season by making a flurry of moves, most notably adding catcher Brian McCann and outfielders Carlos Beltran and Jacoby Ellsbury. While New York also re-signed veteran right-hander Hiroki Kuroda, the Yankees are left with two voids in their starting rotation. The club could look to the free-agent market to fill these vacancies, as they are pursuing...

Carlos Beltran introduced by the Yankees, takes a shot at

Carlos Beltran had his introductory news conference with the Yankees today and said all the things a guy who just signed with the Yankees is expected to say. It’s a great organization, it was his dream to play in pinstripes, etc. etc. But of course, since Beltran spent so much time with the Mets, he was asked about his often turbulent time in Queens. Specifically, the topic...

Cashman hopeful Pineda will help fill still-hazy rotation

Whether Masahiro Tanaka is coming to Major League Baseball or not, and the latest reports out of Japan indicate he will be forced to stay home, the Yankees are looking for a considerable contribution to the rotation from Michael Pineda. The large right-hander obtained from Seattle for Jesus Montero following the 2011 season, hasn’t thrown a pitch in the big leagues since then...

First and foremost: Joe Torre, who so mismanaged the Mets in an earlier incarnation that his best future bet might have been in designing and manufacturing duck calls. Don't...
