TEAMS: Detroit Tigers, St. Louis Cardinals, Chicago White Sox, Philadelphia Phillies, Oakland Athletics, New York Mets
The Detroit Tigers continue to be a hot name as the offseason is starting to get really interesting. Two names that surfaced in very different ways this afternoon were those of Octavio Dotel and Mark Buehrle.
Dotel
The Tigers, according to multiple sources, are one of two final teams in on the Octavio Dotel sweepstakes. The other team is the St. Louis Cardinals, the team Dotel made a huge impact for during their World Series run last year.
Octavio Dotel
Dotel is a three-quarters arm-angle right-handed reliever. His next team will be his 13th since joining the big leagues back in 1999. Despite a lot of wear on the treads, Dotel posted a strong 2011 season (3.50 ERA, 0.98 WHIP). The downside is that this will be his age 38 season and 2011 was one of his best seasons in recent memory.
The Tigers are believed to have offered Dotel a strong package to lure him away from St. Louis. Detroit even went so far as to have their most eloquent salesman, Jim Leyland, personally call Octavio to te...

The off-season spending spree for the Miami Marlins continued on Wednesday as they agreed to a four year contract with pitcher Mark Buehrle who had most recently pitched for the Chicago White Sox. Many expected that Mark Buehrle may be one of the better bargains this offseason, but he ended up getting a decent haul from the Miami Marlins – a four-year $58 million contract – according to Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports.
Buehrle seemed like a good fit for the Yankees early on as a cheaper alternative to C.J. Wilson. They met with him early on but talks didn’t...
Congratulations, Octavio Dotel!
One of my all-time favorite Partial Season Pirates, Octavio Dotel, signed with the Detroit Tigers today. That gives him an MLB-record 13 career teams and since he seems to be happy about it, I'm happy for him. I'm so happy for that I made a Sporcle quiz honoring his achievment and wrote a longer post about it over at the Outside Corner. I'm not sure if I actually care...

Recapping Day 1 of the Winter Meetings for the Nationals
Despite their desire to make a big splash at the meetings, the Washington Nationals were no where to be found on Day 1 of the MLB Winter Meetings. Unless you count conflicting rumors flying off the handle about the teams interest in CJ Wilson, Mark Buehrle, Prince Fielder, and even Albert Pujols. Here's what we know about the Nats after one day of negotiating.
