The catching position is dominated by all-star Alex Avila.  Avila came on strong last year making his first all-star game.  He battled a solid .295 He was third in average for all catchers in the majors (and that is if you consider Victor Martinez a catcher.)  He also was third in RBIs (again with Victor Martinez leading the charge.) The one fact about Avila that you cannot overlook is the way he handled the pitching staff.   Having a MVP and Cy Young winner helps but helping guys like Doug Fister, Max Scherzer succeed was paramount.  He did not hit well in the playoffs and that is a concern but his defense and handling of the staff really was necessary to keep him in there.  He should build on his ultra successful season. The bullpen is heading by the two headed monster of closer Jose Valverde and Joaquin Benoit.  Benoit was excellent in the setup role as he had 29 holds for the Tigers.  Benoit struck out just under a batter an inning and if the Tigers made it with the lea...
