A recent insider comment on the Detroit Tigers trade rumors indicated that the team may stand pat, rolling on with the roster as already assembled. Jim Leyland was the bearer of that news and it shouldn’t come as a surprise.
GM Dave Dombrowski likes to operate in the shadows and then emerge with a mega deal. That’s his M.O. He did it with Miguel Cabrera, same with the Curtis Granderson trade, and more recently Doug Fister. My initial reaction to this is that Leyland was simply ordered to throw the media off the scent so that the wheeling and dealing GM can do his thing prior to the trade deadline.
Jhonny Peralta must step up
The one common theme that has persisted since Prince Fielder inked his deal with the Tigers is that this team must experience the postseason in 2012. Anything short of that would be deemed a cataclysmic failure.
At the All-Star break, the Tigers are chasing both the Cleveland Indians and Chicago White Sox in the meager AL Central standings. Detroit has played be...

Photos making their way around the web suggest that Kate Upton may have finally let the reigning AL MVP and CY Young winner into her 'Perfect Club'.
During Sunday's Royals-Tigers game at Comerica Park, Detroit catcher Gerald Laird had a little fun by pulling the old ball-on-a-string trick with some kids hovering above the home team's dugout.
Laird can be seen with a devilish grin while he played keep-away with the patient kids until one of the little dugout rats proudly snapped the souvenir from the string.
Detroit prospect Nick Castellanos hit a three-run homer during a nine-run sixth inning, and Royals minor leaguer Wil Myers added three RBI to lead the US team to a 17-5 rout of the World team in the All-Star Futures Game on Sunday.
Billy Hamilton and Manny Machado each drove in two runs for the US team, contributing to a record 22 combined runs during the annual prospect showcase...
KANSAS CITY, MO. Justin Verlander has accrued virtually every individual honor available to a starting pitcher: a Rookie of the Year award and World Series Game 1 start in 2006; a no-hitter in 2007; Most Valuable Player and Cy Young awards, along with the second no-hitter of his career, in 2011.
Tuesday, he will add yet another: a start for the American League in the All-Star Game...
KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) -- Detroit's Prince Fielder became only the second player to win multiple titles in the All-Star Home Run Derby, thrilling the crowd at Kauffman Stadium with eight splash shots into the right-field fountain and beating Toronto's Jose Bautista 12-7 in the final Monday night.
On a night when the Yankees' Robinson Cano was repeatedly booed and went...
Justin Verlander made a mockery of the American League for the majority of last season on the way to capturing 28 first place votes and taking home the Cy Young and MVP Awards. He’s firmly placed himself in the discussion through the first half of the 2012 season, but the race is much [...]
Prince Fielder put on a show for fans of the Home Run Derby — if there are any left — on Tuesday night as he won the event for the second time and hit some absolute bombs in the process. Fielder hit the four longest homers of the night, two of which traveled an estimated 476 feet. In the final round, Fielder defeated Jose Bautista by a score of 12-7. Bautista was considered by...

DETROIT (AP) -- Prince Fielder hit a two-run, game-tying homer in the first, Delmon Young had a two-run home run to pad the lead in the seventh inning and the Detroit Tigers held on to beat the Kansas City Royals 8-7 Saturday.
Detroit closer Jose Valverde started the ninth with a four-run lead and almost lost it.
Valverde walked Alex Gordon on four pitches to lead off the inning...
In case anyone missed it, Sports Illustrated model and maybe the hottest women on the planet right now Kate Upton attended the Tigers’ 8-7 victory over the Kansas City Royals Saturday afternoon.

Last season Justin Verlander took home the American League Cy Young Award but also the MVP, becoming the first pitcher to be named AL most valuable player since Dennis Eckersley in 1992 and the first starting pitcher since Roger Clemens in 1686. It’s not exactly a game, but the Home Run Derby was last night. Prince Fielder was the winner for the second time in his career: he also won the Derby in 2009.

Prince Fielder made a splash at the All-Star Home Run Derby. Eight of them. The Detroit slugger joined Ken Griffey Jr. as the only players to win multiple titles, thrilling the crowd at Kauffman Stadium with several shots into the right-field fountain and beating Toronto’s Jose Bautista 12-7 in the final Monday night. 8:45 a.m. ET: "It's going, going, going, it's...." Chances are you'll be hearing that phrase a lot Monday night, as Kansas City's Kauffman Stadium provides the setting for the 2012 edition of the Home Run Derby. Begun in 1985, when Dave Parker hit six home runs representing the Cincinnatti Reds at the Metrodome in a single round, the competition has become...
