In a way I guess I, and Detroit Tigers fans with me, should be happy. An underperforming member of the roster has been traded to add more depth in the bullpen. Clearly this was a move that needed to happen, but for me it speaks to way in which Tigers General Manger Dave Dombrowski has really dropped the ball. His performance in the front office seems to be getting a little worse each and every year.
Let’s rewind the clock a bit and look at the end of the 2009 season, and the off season between the 2009 and 2010 seasons. I think it is here where Dombrowski made the biggest mistake of his Tigers career.
After the 2009 season Dombrowski let 2B Placido Polanco leave town without so much as a contract offer. Even though an offer made to him would have secured the Tigers an additional draft pick. The point here is Polanco a great second baseman and a steady produce at the #2 spot in the lineup was allowed to leave, and there was not a suitable replacement in the Tigers farm system. D...
