Dundee-Crown HS alum Ryan Court reached base five times on two doubles, a single, and two walks, leading the Diamondbacks to an 11-4 drubbing of the Cubs in Cactus League Extended Spring Training action this morning at Fitch Park Field #3 in Mesa, AZ. Stephen Drew (2011 broken ankle rehab) arrived at Fitch Park after the game started and played the middle three innings at shortstop, batting once in the 4th, 5th, and 6th innings. Facing LHP Hunter Ackerman, Drew walked in the 4th, grounded out 4-3 in the 5th, and reached base on an HBP in the 6th. He also committed a fielding error at SS in the bottom of the 5th that eventually resulted in an unearned run scoring for the Cubs. SS Junior Lake (back injury suffered during Spring Training) continued his EXST rehab in today's game, playing shortstop for all nine innings (started one DP and was the middle-man in another) and batting once each in the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, and 8th innings. Montero rewarding Diamondbacks for belief

Miguel Montero was 17. Every major-league club but one already had rejected him. He was ready to quit baseball, finish high school and go study mechanical engineering in college. The Arizona Diamondbacks were his last hope. Junior Noboa, the teams vice president of Latin operations, had flown to Venezuela to oversee the tryout from his native Dominican Republic. Noboa's plane...

Reds' bats go quiet against Cubs

CINCINNATI (AP) -- Bryan LaHair and Ian Stewart hit solo homers -- a major outburst for the power-challenged Chicago Cubs -- and Jeff Samardzija pitched into the eighth inning on Wednesday night for a 3-1 victory over the Cincinnati Reds. The Cubs opened the rain-shortened series with only their third multihomer game of the season. They managed only nine home runs in April, the...

Right now, the Cubs have 14 Home Runs on the year, Matt Kemp 12...the race is on. If you're in the area, apparently there are some $4 tickets available thanks to the wonders of dynamic pricing. I'd certainly pay that to Kemp play. Dodgers Cubs Gordon, SS *DeJesus, RF M. Ellis, 2B *Campana, CF Kemp, CF Castro, SS *Ethier, RF *LaHair, 1B Rivera, LF Soriano, LF...
