There isn’t a lot of time to reflect as baseball never sleeps. D-Backs owner Ken Kendrick knows the feeling, and just a day after the Diamondbacks ended their season, he commented on the Diamondbacks’ season and D-Backs Manager Torey Lovullo during a conversation with Arizona Sports’ Dave Burns and John Gambadoro.

When the D-Backs front office analyzed Manager Torey Lovullo and his role in the season, they evaluated all the various elements that went into doing his job. Kendrick commented on all of the injuries, as well as having 39 pitchers on the roster this season, along with six players who received Tommy John Surgery. “We didn’t end up with the talent on the field, and we know why.” (Credit: Arizona Sports 98.7) Kendrick realized the extraordinary amount of injuries, and how the manager’s job is to do the best he can with the job he has.

He credited Lovullo after keeping the clubhouse together and fighting after being sellers at the trade deadline, and for playing hard right to the end of the season. Kendrick has to look at the body of work, and overall, he has done an incredible job. “He has great respect among our players,” (Credit: Arizona Sports 98.7) which he mentioned is a very positive sign. One of the major issues Kendrick knew about was retooling this team to help Lovullo succeed.

When asked if the Diamondbacks’ $220 million payroll is sustainable and if they will spend the same amount in 2026, Kendrick said, “I don’t think that we will.” (Credit: Arizona Sports 98.7) Kendrick did mention that it will be a handsome number to allow a competitive team. He credited the D-Backs fans as 2.4 million people over the 2025 season came to the games, the largest amount since 2008. With all the significant revenue from fans attending games, the money that is there from fan-side revenue will be reinvested into the team.
