PLAYERS: RA Dickey
TEAMS: New York Mets

Fake Teams takes a look at some good starting pitchers who are toiling for bad teams and lists our own R.A. Dickey among his five picks. Yes, he is 37-years old. But, in knuckleball years, he is really like 27. Now that he has returned from climbing Mt. Kilmanjaro, with all his fingers and toes, Dickey should continue his surprising success against National League hitters. Over the last 2 seasons at home, he is 9-12 with an anemic 2.87 ERA and a spectacular 1.10 WHIP in 196+ IP. I know, I know, the fences are moving in at Citi Field. But it’s not like Citi Field will, all of a sudden, become a hitter’s park. Anyway, let’s look how he did on the road. 10-10, 3.29 ERA, 1.32 WHIP in 186+ IP. That is why I like Dickey over all the other Mets starters, who all had ERAs north of 5.00 on the road last year. If you can get Dickey’s road line for the entire season, I would be first in line to sign up for that. So, in two years with the Mets, Dickey’s line looks ...

Is David Wright The Next Frank Robinson?

Before you start to jump all over me on this, I am not by any means saying that David Wright is on Frank Robinson’s level. Robinson is one of the best hitters of all time, Wright is trying to get his career back on track. Though with all of the trade rumors surrounding Wright going into 2012, I was reminded of the infamous trade of Robinson to the Orioles on the premise that...

Warthen Must Confront The Bad Habits Exhibited By Mets Pitchers

Bill Petti of Baseball Nation penned a post on how much Park Factors play into a team’s success. He noted the following about the Mets since their move to Citi Field: After opening Citi Field in 2009, the New York Mets saw a significant decline in their ability to score runs. The team averaged 681 runs scored per year from ’09-’11 compared to 812 over the previous...

Prospect Pulse: The 2012 Buffalo Bisons

And now for your amusement, Part 4 of the four part mini-series exclusive, right here on MMO. The internet place where baseball imagination runs rampant! First we brought you Part 1, which seemed like a good place to start, but it was so long ago that I forgot what it was about, so here’s the link: The 2012 Savannah Sand Gnats. Then we brought you Part 2, which makes perfect...

Still No Light At End Of The Tunnel

Pitchers and catchers report to St. Lucie in three weeks and where is the sense of optimism that comes with the approaching baseball season? In the past three years the Mets entered spring training without realistic hope save wishing they could muster a competitive season to keep their dwindling fan base interested and enthused. This year included. It is not healthy when the fans’...

Mets looking to add lefty outfielder bat for their bench

Andy Martino of the Ny Daily News reports with Spring training is three weeks away, the Mets off-season work might not be complete. According to two team insiders, the club is looking for a veteran left-handed bat for the bench, and is shopping in the aisle that includes Rick Ankiel, Kosuke Fukudome, Raul Ibanez and Johnny Damon. Ankiel or Fukudome could provide Terry Collins...

Mets Notes: Bucholz To Skip 2012, Ankiel Still On Mets Radar, Oberkfell To Bears

Reliever Taylor Buchholz, who has dealt with anxiety and depression issues throughout his career, plans to skip the 2012 season, agent David Pasti told ESPN New York. Buchholz signed with Mets last offseason and went on the DL on June 2 with what was announced as shoulder fatigue. But a month later both Buchholz and the Mets jointly announced that he was dealing with the emotional...

Interesting Mets Grade “C” Prospects for 2012

I was reading this article by John Sickels over at Minor League Ball and it got me thinking about the grade “C” of the Mets who I really like for 2012 and think could have potential breakouts, or in other words some pretty deep sleepers to keep an eye on. 1. Chase Huchingson, LHP: 7-2, 1.82 ERA, 84 IP, 91/25 K/BB (Savannah) He was signed to a big time program coming...

Breakdowns on veteran outfielders Mets are interested in

In an article for the New York Daily News, Andy Martino wrote that the Mets are searching “for a veteran lefthanded bat for the bench, and [are] shopping in the aisle that includes Rick Ankiel, Kosuke Fukudome, Raul Ibanez and Johnny Damon.” Right now Mike Baxter and Adam Loewen are the only candidates for a lefty bat off the bench, and neither of those two players...

The Perfect Way For The Mets To Stick It To The Marlins

If you’re a true Mets fan, then you know how much the Marlins have been a thorn in the team’s side since 2007.  First, Tom Glavine was able to retire only one more batter than I did in the 2007 regular season finale, completing the Mets’ collapse.  One year later, the Marlins wouldn’t get off the field after they once again eliminated the Mets (and Shea...

Former Mets Thoughts From The B.A.T. Dinner

Here are some Mets thoughts from the afternoon media session from Tuesday’s 23rd annual MLB B.A.T. Dinner. Gary Sheffield Sheffield said it was not difficult for him to retire after his long career, which included a World Series championship in 1997 with the Marlins and hitting his 500th career home run as a Met. “I pretty much did everything I wanted to do on a baseball...

Why Do We Keep Questioning Ourselves?

The best part about being a blogger is that you have the opportunity to express yourself without the worry and care that you wont be able to say what you really want. The worst part is when you struggle with finding something to say. I’m sorry for the lack of posts on here this offseason, but don’t worry, we will be back to more consistent stuff as spring training finally...

Mets Jambalinka: Zack Wheeler, Gary Carter and team promos

It’s late January and it’s going to be 61 degrees here today with light wind. I can’t wait to go outside with my daughter and throw batting practice. If it’s not that warm where you are or if you’re already on the DL with some mysterious arm ailment, go ahead and check out these links. In the past few years, we have seen a proliferation of interviews with athletes. That...

What if the Mets Had a Chance at 11 More Championships? New Rule Gives More Opportunities

Yes I know we can say “what if” about everything in life but this one could have been feasible with the new playoff system which may go into place this year. By adding another team to the playoffs, the Mets would have been in the playoffs 1984-1990, 1997, 1999, 2000, 2006, 2007 and 2008. They won it all in 1986, had a bunch of AAA players there in 2000, and we all know about...
