PLAYERS: RA DickeyDavid Wright
TEAMS: New York Mets
According to Mike Puma of the New York Post, R.A. Dickey would like the front office to pick up his $5 million dollar option for 2013 and begin negotiating a contract extension, saying: “I like it here and I want to be here. I feel like the team is moving in the right direction, and I want to be a part of the solution. Now it’s up to them. If I’m in their plans, [a contract extension] is one way to make it known. … I made the comment before, when I signed my contract, that it was my hope to be the best bargain around. It looks like it’s kind of come true the last couple of years.” I love R.A. Dickey and by all means pick up that option, but as far as negotiating an extension goes, how can you do that while refusing to discuss an extension with David Wright? During the recently completed road trip, Wright told reporters that the Mets have never approached him about an extension despite several overtures from him that he wants to play his entire career with the Mets. I just don’t see...

Dickey shuts down Pirates in best effort of season

R.A. Dickey is the first to admit that cold weather hurts his knuckleball, which is why his numbers last year were significantly better beginning in mid-May. When the weather grows warmer, Dickey tends to thrive. Consider Tuesday a perfect example of that trend. Dickey delivered his most dominant performance of the season, striking out 11 batters over seven innings of the New York...

Into the minds of Mets pitchers including Jeremy Hefner and R.A. Dickey

We are always quick to judge a pitcher on his work performance. If he does not perform up to our standards, then we have no problem calling for management to give him his walking papers. Yet how often do we really think about what is going on in the mind of a pitcher? When was the last time you cared about what the mindset of a pitcher was? I’m not talking about just one of those...

David Wright the single season record breaker?

Dickey (6-1) struck out a career-high 11 in seven innings, giving up one run on four hits to move into a tie with a host of others for the most wins in the majors. Frank Francisco pitched the ninth for his 11th...

Andres Torres mired in a tough slump

With the score tied at 1-1, New York Mets manager Terry Collins opted to pinch hit for starter R.A. Dickey — who had thrown just 88 pitches — to begin the top of the eighth inning.  Collins called upon Andres Torres and while it took eight pitches, the end result for Torres’ at-bat was a strike out. #bbpBox_205123331861651456 a { text-decoration:none; color:#0084B4; }#bbpBox_20512333186165...
