“I know Dillon Gee, if we bring anybody up that’s going to be a starting pitcher, and we have to take somebody out of the rotation and maybe move them to the bullpen, he would be that guy, because I know he can pitch out of the bullpen.” That is what Terry Collins had to say about Dillon Gee prior to his start against the Yankees in the Subway Series finale just three weeks ago. Coming into that day, Gee was sporting an unsightly ERA of 6.34 after being tattooed for five runs over just five frames earlier that week against the Atlanta Braves. With but a lone quality start on the season and top-prospect Zack Wheeler knocking on the door, Gee’s spot in the rotation was very much in jeopardy. In his four starts since, the Texas native has gone a combined 29.1 frames allowing just five runs while fanning an astounding 32, that is an ERA of just over 1.50 and an 8.0 SO/BB ratio over that stretch. Despite the tough loss last night, Gee has been fantastic in the past three weeks, and is do...

Shaun Marcum Should Get Booted From The Rotation, Not Gee/Hefner

In 1962 it was Bob Miller, in ’93 it was Anthony Young, and now in 2013 there is Shaun Marcum. With last night’s unsightly loss to the Braves, Marcum now holds the third worst record to start a season in franchise history at 0-9. Granted that he hasn’t exactly had a great deal of run support behind him, the 31-year old hasn’t held up his end of the bargain all season long...

Game Preview: Mets @ Braves

The Mets start a four game set with the Braves tonight with the key day being the double-header tomorrow that is also Harvey/Wheeler Day but before we can get to that, we have a Dillon Gee game. Yesterday the Mets somehow won. At points yesterday the defense was so poor that it doesn’t even qualify under the word defense. Anyway Byrd hit a solo homer to lead off the bottom of the...

The Mets Are Just About Inventing New Ways To Lose Baseball Games

Normally when a pitcher throws a complete game on the road, it means they won. However, Mets fans know better than to think they are anything close to normal. One night after the Mets continued the downward spiral of humanity by celebrating a game they didn’t deserve to win, Karma reared her ugly head and forced some the Mets’ own medicine down their throat. Dillon Gee had perhaps...

Braves 2, Mets 1

The Atlanta Braves waited a long time to get going. Finally, at 1:22 a.m., Freddie Freeman gave them a most improbable victory. Freeman hit a two-run homer in the ninth inning to ruin a brilliant performance by Dillon Gee, leading the Braves past the Mets 2-1 Monday night in a game that was delayed nearly four hours by rain. Gee (5-7) drove in New York's lone run and totally...

Nieuwenhuis Launches A Walk-Off Homer In Dramatic 4-3 Comeback Win

The New York Mets came back from a three run deficit in the ninth to beat the Chicago Cubs 4-3 after a dramatic walk-off three run blast by Kirk Nieuwenhuis. Things didn’t start off so good for the Mets as poor Jeremy Hefner was once again the victim of shoddy defense (2 errors) and no run support – a recurring theme now for the 27-year-old righthander. Hefner allowed just one...

At least the Mets had the decency to lose in nine innings after a four hour rain delay. So much for your imaginary concept of "momentum". I don't suppose there's a chance that the Braves could acquire Carlos Marmol in the next few minutes? The Mets could now go 0-3 in a span of 24 hours thanks to Freddie Freeman's walk-off dinger off Dillon Gee...
