Hey baseball world, have you ever heard of Chicago Cubs backup catcher Dioner Navarro? If you live in the windy city you do now! Dioner Navarro replaced Wellington Castillo in the lineup today and had a day to remember. The Chicago Cubs, who are desperate for any offense got it from their backup catcher. Dioner Navarro took John Danks yard twice hitting a solo shot in the second inning, and a two-run shot in the fourth inning. He hit a three-run shot in the seventh inning off of Brian Omogrosso. Navarro ended the day with 3HR, 6RBI, 4RUNS, and a walk in a 9-3 win against their arch rival White Sox in the The Windy City Showdown.
Navarro entered the game with 44 career home runs in 2,066 at-bats. That is, he had one homer for every 47 at-bats previously in his career. On Wedneday, Navarro homered in his only three at-bats.
In case you didn’t know: Navarro is also a switch hitter, hitting two of his three home runs from the right hand side. The last Cub’s player to hit three home runs in a game was Aramis Ramirez against Houston Astros three years ago.
The last Cub’s catcher to hit three home runs in a game was George Mitterwald on April 17, 1974, against Pittsburgh.
Don’t know how long Navarro will be able to keep the glass slipper on, but for one afternoon there will be a smile on his face!

Shawon Dunston Jr and Brad Zapenas collected three hits a piece, Francisco Sanchez stroked a two-run single and a double, and Loiger Padron tossed three innings of one-hit shutout ball, as the Cubs edged the Athletics 4-3 in Cactus League Extended Spring Training action this morning at Fitch Park Field #4 in Mesa, AZThe game was pre-planned as a ten-inning contest so that all of...
Cranes fill the streets around the Wrigley Field Bleachers this morning as the Cubs mock-up their proposed advertisements. They started in right field with an ad for "FFFFFFFFFFFF" (surely Budweiser in the future) and boy, it is large. The purpose of the mock-up is to show the City and the rooftop owners how these signs will impact the views in and plenty of folks are...
James Sneed roped a two-run single and Ryan Dalton followed with an RBI single to highlight a two-out three-run rally in the top of the 3rd inning, and Tyler DeLoach tossed 3.2 IP of one-hit shutout ball with seven strikeouts, helping the Angels defeat the Cubs 4-1 in Cactus League Extended Spring Training action this morning at Fitch Park Field #4 in Mesa, AZ. Junior Lake (fractured...
If you have Travis Wood on your fantasy team, you are a lucky duck. For real! Travis Wood has been the bargain of bargains at the fantasy starting pitcher slot this season. Even I, a man with a certain fondness for Wood and fantasy crush on the entire Cubs rotation, could not, would not, have predicted the start that Travis Wood is having. The thing now, from the fantasy...
Kyuji Fujikawa was signed to be Carlos Marmol's eventual replacement as Cubs closer. Now, just 12 innings into his stateside career, the right-hander needs Tommy John surgery.
Fujikawa left his May 26 outing against the Reds with what the Cubs were hoping was a forearm strain -- the same injury that cost him a month on the DL earlier this season. Fujikawa told reporters...
This isn’t the most exciting news…unless you’re Kevin Gregg. In that case, prepare to have some statistics to back up your quest to receive a new contract next year because Kyuji Fujikawa is now out for the season. Kevin Gregg, you may now scream “Huzzah!” Brought in by Boy Genius Jed Hoyer to be a cheap and effective replacement for the carnival show that is Carlos...
Javier Baez hit a walk-off homer in the bottom of the 11th to give Daytona a 7-5 win over the Tampa Yankees. LHP Chris Rusin (Iowa) and RHP Kyle Hendricks (Tennessee) both made quality starts to help their teams to victories. Kane County fell to the Quad Cities in a rain shorted game. Plenty of roster activity.
Let’s get it out of the way. Kyuji Fujikawa is broken and needs to be fixed:

Hoyer on Fujikawa: “It is unfortunate but it is the nature of pitching. We’re hopeful he’ll come back.”

We’ll build him bigger, better, stronger…maybe...
After three miserable games against their crosstown rivals, there wasn't much left for the White Sox to say.
''We just got beat in all facets of the game,'' White Sox first baseman Paul Konerko said. ''They were just the better team in every area.''
Cubs pitcher Travis Wood hit a grand slam off Jake Peavy and the White Sox lost 8-3 on Thursday...
With all the bigwigs looking down from the rooftops (Owner - Tom Ricketts, President of Business Operation - Crane Kenny and (strangely) former head of marketing - Wally Hayward), the Cubs mocked up the proposed Jumbotron at Wrigley Field. It's difficult to get a true handle on exactly how big this thing will be (they only had tarps hanging on opposite ends of a pole) but...
The Chicago Cubs hope a rainy night didn't dampen their momentum.
The Cubs, who have long struggled against the Chicago White Sox, will go for their second straight win over their crosstown rivals and third consecutive victory overall on Wednesday afternoon.
The Cubs (20-30), leading 2-0 in the third inning of Tuesday's contest, appeared poised to secure at least a tie...
Alfonso Soriano has consistently hit well against the Arizona Diamondbacks during his career.
The Chicago Cubs hope that trend continues Friday as they try to win five in a row for the first time in nearly two years in the opener of a three-game series at Wrigley Field.
After a season-high six-game skid, the Cubs (22-30) have outscored opponents 29-10 during the winning streak...
