My hopes of a Chad Billingsley, Edwin Encarnacion trade was just blown to smithereens this morning. According to Ben Nicholson-Smith of MLB Trade Rumors, the Toronto Blue Jays have signed Edwin Encarnacion to a three-year $27MM contract, which also includes a fourth year option.

I hate the Blue Jays right now, but I'm certainly glad to see them put together a contending team in the AL East. Here's the facts, Encarnacion is not going to be traded this summer, don't believe anything else otherwise, and the corner infield market for the Dodgers just took another hit. None of that is good for the Dodgers, sigh...

The Dodgers have now missed out on Kevin Youkilis, Carlos Lee (dodged a bullet there), and now Encarnacion. I would expect the Dodgers pursuit of Chase Headley and Bryan LaHair to pick up a bit now that another option is off the market. I would also expect the Dodgers to check in on Aramis Ramirez, but so far there have been no rumors to report on A-Ram. It's going to be a wild nineteen days, fun, fun, fun...
