I swear this is absolute madness. Is it just me or does it seem like every time the Dodgers activate someone from the DL, two more are added? The Dodgers recently activated Mark Ellis
from the disabled list, so of course the Dodgers added Andre Ethier
to the disabled list. That's not that big of a deal, he's been hurt for several days, and he's eligible to come back right after the All-Star break, so this more of managing the 25-man roster.
Coming in two's, down goes Todd Coffey
for the year. He's having Tommy John surgery and he has a long road of recovery ahead of him. But wait, that's not all, Dee Gordon
is out for six weeks
after finding out he has a UCL tear in his thumb
. The injury occurred last night when Gordon's hand caught the base on a head-first slide into third on a stolen base. He's scheduled for surgery and he will miss about six weeks, so that puts his return right around the middle of August. Elian Herrera
and Luis Cruz
figure to split the starting job as long as they continue to hit well.
Huge blow to the Dodgers. Say what you want about the rookie, but the kid deserves to be here. He's adjusting to the majors a bit, no doubt. But you can't deny his talent and you are looking at a future perennial All-Star. Gordon currently leads all MLB players with 30 stolen bases. His OBP is .280, imagine if it was at a much more respectable number. You can't deny Gordon's speed, talent, and sheer athleticism. Let's hope these wheels get healthy soon.
With Gordon added to the DL, in a subsequent move, Javy Guerra
has been activated
from the disabled list and could possibly see some action tonight. For a second, just imagine what the Dodgers record would be if the team was healthy. Ponder a bit if you will. I don't know about you but I am ready for the second half to begin, screw the
All-Star Game. Kemp, Ethier, Ellis, Guerrier, and Lilly all coming back within a couple weeks. Look out Gnats, first place belongs to the boys in blue.
