Losing five of the first seven on this 10-game homestand has left the Marlins in a precarious spot. Keeping in mind nobody figured they would factor into the National League East race this season it's conceivable the Marlins before month's end will be altogether eliminated.
Thursday's 6-0 loss to Clayton Kershaw and the Dodgers at Marlins Park dropped the club's tragic number to eight with eight August games remaining. Any combination of eight Marlins' losses or Braves' wins and another year will pass without an NL East pennant.
