The Los Angeles Dodgers have signed Josh Bard to a one-year deal, believed to be $750k Jon Heyman of CBSSports reports. Dylan Hernandez of the LA Times clarifies the signing by noting that the deal is a minor-league deal.
In 81 at-bats this season, Bard hit .210.
The move is considered odd as the Dodgers are set to go with A.J. Ellis behind the plate and recently signed Matt Treanor to a one-year deal with an option for 2013. Bard would provide insurance at Triple-A in case Ellis or Treanor are injured or Ellis doesn't produce.
