A quick update of some of the latest rumors from around the web. The Dodgers begin the second half of the 2012 season tomorrow, with 19 days until the non-waiver trade deadline, the hot stove is sure to get blazing hot over the next few days.

The Cubs and Dodgers are talking Matt Garza and Ryan Dempster again, reports Jon Heyman. The Dodgers are seen across the league as the favorite to acquire Dempster, but the talks of Garza have been minimal up to this point. It's possible the Dodgers have concerns about Dempster after just returning from the disabled list.

The Dodgers are seen as big time aggressors heading into the trade deadline. Prioritizing starting pitching, upgrading their corner infield spots, and bringing in a left-handed reliever. The Dodgers certainly have the resources to make a big splash at the deadline now that Guggenheim Baseball is running the show. The Dodgers are still maintaining their stance of taking on payroll rather than relinquishing prospects this summer. The Cubs could be a difficult trade partner this summer, because they are looking for talent, not salary relief.

Dempster, 35, is owed $14MM in 2012, but he has a league-leading 1.99 ERA with 7.3 K/9 and 2.3 BB/9 in 86 innings and he will be a free agent this year. Garza, 28, has a 4.32 ERA with 8.3 K/9 and 2.8 BB/9 in 93 2/3 innings. Garza is owed $9.5MM in 2012, but Garza still has one more year of arbitration left before he hits free agency after next season.
