So day two of the 2011 Dallas Winter Meetings has come to an end, and thankfully the Dodgers didn't sign Manny Ramirez to a two-year deal. Manny is planning on filing for reinstatement soon, and with the Dodgers still looking for a big bat you know Colletti is already scheming on the idea of trying to replicate 2008 all over again. Okay so I am joking, the sad thing is, it wouldn't surprise me one bit if this actually happened.

Colletti said today that though he has begun preliminary discussions with Clayton Kershaw on a deal that would keep the reigning Cy Young winner in Los Angeles for a very long time, he hasn't made a similar suggestion to Andre Ethier, who will be a free agent after 2012. But he also said he hasn't considered trading Ethier "right now," and up to this point there have not been any inquiries from other clubs for the right fielder.

Ready for some really super awesome news? With all the fire Ned Colletti talk flying around here and pretty much everywhere else, it would only make sense that we would get a rumor of Logan White interviewing for yet another GM job, this time with the Houston Astros. I am a big fan of Logan White and I am pulling for him to eventually take over as GM someday, though I am probably just dreaming. Don't hit the panic button yet. Fingers crossed he doesn't get a second interview, I know, I know, I'm being selfish, what's new?

Time for some somewhat good news. The Dodgers have also begun talks with Mike MacDougal, we all knew this was coming. I'm actually okay with this, especially on a one-year deal. But if Colletti goes out and gives this guy a two or three-year backloaded deal, my head is seriously going to essplode. Dylan Hernandez just tweeted that the Dodgers are meeting with MacDougal's agent tonight. Probably won't be long now.

Alright let's have some fun, no, for reals this time. Dylan Hernandez is all over the rumor buzz tonight, Hernandez is tweeting that the Dodgers have talked to 4-5 teams about a potential trades looking for a bat. It's about time some rumors start flying around. I speculated the other day there are three players that will come in trade talks this winter James Loney, Andre Ethier, and Ted Lilly. For now if the above is true we can cross Ethier off the list. Plus if you are looking for a bat you wouldn't trade Ethier, unless it's a move to set-up another, but like I said Ethier is off the table.

So Loney? Hmm. What trade value does this guy have these days? I know all you James Loney lovers think he can still get to Joey Votto's level, don't even get me started. Seriously I don't see an equation where trading Loney makes sense. But there are two scenarios here, the most likely of the two is I can see the Dodgers going after an outfielder in a trade sending Loney elsewhere, and then subsequently move Rivera or Kennedy over to first base.

Scenario number two, with a very emphatic highly unlikely added here, is if they are planning on trading Loney for a bullpen arm, shedding Loney's 2012 commitment, then also shedding some additional payroll by, then making a run at Prince Fielder. Otherwise Loney is the first baseman on Opening Day end of story.

So Ted Lilly? Well as I mentioned when the Dodgers signed Chris Capuano the other day, it makes no sense to have three left-handers in the starting rotation. Lilly is set to make $10.5MM in 2012, so perhaps there is something here.

Of course Colletti could go back to his ways of trading some of our talented pitching prospects away to pry away a hitter. With the 2012 starting rotation set, as well as the 2013 rotation thanks to Colletti and his brilliant backloaded two year deals, I'm getting a little nervous. This would put Zach Lee Chris Withrow, Nate Eovaldi, Allen Webster, Garrett Gould, Josh Lindblom, and others on immediate notice. Thank God Rubby De La Rosa is hurt so we don't have to worry about him getting traded.

Speculation on the bat...well my first thought is it would have to be an outfielder. Carlos Quentin is the first person that comes to mind as it seems the White Sox are in full rebuilding mode. This was evidenced earlier today when they traded Sergio Santos to the Blue Jays. Quentin's and Loney's 2012 salaries are similar so perhaps? The Red Sox were in talks involving Quentin with the White Sox earlier today, according to Nick Cafardo. We saw Colorado's Seth Smith name come up recently, but I hardly consider him a big bat. Thinking outside the box just a bit, Alfonso Soriano and Carlos Lee are both likely available, but each respective club would have to pick up a significant chunk of their ginormous 2012 salary.

Now I know that going after an infielder doesn't make a whole lot of sense with the recent signings of Mark Ellis, Adam Kennedy, and Jerry Hairston Jr., but might as well, right? The biggest name reportedly on the trade block, Hanley Ramirez. Apparently Hanley wasn't a big fan of Jose Reyes being brought in to Miami. On top of all that the Marlins then asked their franchise player to move to third to accommodate their  newly acquired free agent shortstop. Yeah that had to have stung a little. I don't see Colletti having the resources to pull this off, and it makes me nauseous just thinking about what Colletti would give away. Being realistic I just don't see this happening. Call me crazy but I would much rather have Dee Gordon anyway, the point of this was to take it off the table, not put it on, so very unrealistic, not happening.

Tomorrow could be fun, stay tuned.
