Dave Dombrowski was somber when he spoke to the media Tuesday about Victor Martinez's knee injury. The Tigers general manager had learned the day before that Martinez likely would miss the season. "A sock in the gut," Dombrowski called it. By Friday, Dombrowski had regained his public vigor and optimism.

Tigers Notes and Quotes

Victor Martinez's status after he tore his ACL, which players could make noise as minor league invites to big league camp, and a couple wrap up points on the Hall of Fame balloting.

Tigers move on minus injured Martinez (AP)

Days after learning Victor Martinez could miss the entire 2012 season with a knee injury, the Detroit Tigers began looking ahead to the challenge of replacing him. Manager Jim Leyland was relatively at ease Thursday when discussing Martinez, who tore the ACL in his left knee last week. The Tigers are still considering their options, but Leyland says the team will find somebody "either...

Replacing Victor Martinez won't be easy, but Tigers begin process

DETROIT - The vehicles of the Tigers' caravan will roll from Comerica Park early this afternoon. Vladimir Guerrero...

KC's patience may pay off ... eventually

Its been 27 years since the Kansas City Royals last reached the playoffs. Chicago Cubs fans are lauded for their patience, but theyve enjoyedendured five postseason appearances since Kansas Citys most recent trip to October. Am I alone in thinking the Royals shouldnt be that far away from snapping the drought? Kansas City scored a respectable 730 runs last year with a young lineup...

'Probably not a good fit' for Tigers

HBT: Victor Martinez‘s season-ending knee injury has Tigers fans getting their hopes up for Prince Fielder, but Dave Dombrowski threw cold water on that notion.

Victor Martinez a big loss, but Tigers think they can overcome injury

Then, as Cabrera continued to talk to reporters on Thursday at Comerica Park, he gave many reasons he thought the Tigers could overcome the expected season-long loss of Martinez: Sound pitching. Front-office expertise. And several hitters from whom he expected big years: Delmon Young, Brennan Boesch, Alex Avila and Austin Jackson.

Justin Masterson - The One That Got Away

The date was July 31, 2009 and it was the last day of that season's trade deadline. The Boston Red Sox needed a boost to help that season's playoff chances. And so on that deadline day, the Red Sox pulled the trigger on a deal with the Cleveland Indians for Victor Martinez. In return, the Red Sox sent Justin Masterson, Bryan Price and Nick Hagadone. Martinez performed...

Lets Make A Deal Edition

Some big names have come off the board. What about the Prince? I have some real concerns about the Tigers 2012 edition without Victor Martinez in the lineup. I think his loss has very negative ramifications on the season for Miguel Cabrera. If VMart isn't in the middle of the lineup, then who is? I'm not totally sold on a full season of strength from Brennan Boesch...

Interview with Yankees Blogger

Mike D. who writes at the blog Yankees Fans Unite is interviewers bloggers of all major League teams as spring training approaches.  A couple of weeks ago, he asked me questions about the Tigers 2011 season, their current off-season and what to expect in 2012.  He's got my answers posted on his blog today. This interview was done prior to the injury to Victor Martinez...

Tiger Blood

The coke-binged, wiry meme used as today’s title may not have the same ring to it as it did WAY back in 2011, but if you’re a fan of the Detroit variety, you know that Tiger blood is still in the streets. Well, the South Florida streets anyway. In case you’ve been distracted by the train wreck that is the Republican Party primary, Victor Martinez tore his ACL and will be out...

Tigers' Brennan Boesch healthy, could be Cabrera's protection

Perhaps the hitter to replace Victor Martinez already is here. Perhaps he's Brennan Boesch -- a healthy and confident Boesch.
