Found April 11, 2013 on Mets Merized Online:
John Buck, 32, has started the season with blinders on. He is focused and locked into every pitch the second it releases a pitcher’s hand and it’s almost as if it heads to the plate in super slow motion for him. He’s kept criticism at bay and been one of the bigger surprises for the Mets in the early part of this season. Buck continued his hot streak with another home run in yesterday’s loss to the Phillies 3-7. He’s is batting .375/.371/.875, has five home runs, 15 RBIs and a savvy veteran demeanor in the dugout. As the season progresses, one can only guess what lies ahead for the journeyman catcher. I can’t help but point out what looms in the minds of Mets fans: if Buck keeps playing like this, he could be a valuable trade chip at the deadline. The two sides of me—the Mets fan and the rational thinker—have gone back and forth with the concept for the last couple days. The Mets fan says: “Buck has been great and will compliment Travis d’Arnaud when d’Arnaud is ready to come up.”

Roundtable: What do you make of John Buck’s start?

Matt Harvey’s been dominant, Lucas Duda has been selective and powerful but beyond a shadow of a doubt the best story so far for the 2013 Mets is that of John Buck.  So, I asked friends in the blogosphere the following question: What do you make of John Buck’s start?  Is this a brief hot stretch like Rod Barajas in 2010 or is it something else? These people all do great...

What the heck has gotten into John Buck?

And the streak continues! For the ninth straight game (hey, maybe I was onto something) to open the season the Mets have hit at least one home run, a streak that is now a new record while besting the 87 squad. Surprisingly leading the charge is the “throw in” in the R.A. Dickey trade, John Buck. To say that Buck is hot would be a massive understatement. Buck has been everything...

Obligatory John Buck What If Post: Keep Him Or Trade Him At The Deadline?

This is the T-Shirt Tuesday design for the April 23 game against the Los Angeles Dodgers, honoring Mets catcher John Buck. It bears a striking resemblance to Blitzen. In 31 plate appearances so far this season, Buck is batting .393/.387/.464 with four home runs and an NL leading 14 RBIs in eight games. Buck did not hit his fourth home run of the year last year until May 13 (25 games...

Mets’ John Buck Launches Grand Slam Against Twins, Raises League-Leading RBI Total to 19 (Video)

John Buck is looking like he’ll fit in just fine in Queens. The former Marlin has been absolutely demolishing the baseball in his first season with the Mets. Buck has hit safely in nine of his first 10 games, batting a whopping .382 and tying Baltimore’s Chris Davis for the overall lead in both home runs (six) and RBIs (19). The latest of those long balls came Friday night in...

John Buck continues his torrid pace during New York Mets victory over Twins

Pre-game snowflakes were not enough to cool down John Buck and the New York Mets offense at Target Field on Friday night.  The Mets pounded out five runs in each of the first two innings, including a grand-slam by Buck in second, en-route to a 16-5 victory over the Twins. #bbpBox_322897932317782018 a { text-decoration:none; color:#0084B4; }#bbpBox_322897932317782018 a:hover { text...

Mets 16, Twins 5

As snowflakes swirled over Target Field, John Buck drove another ball deep into the air to join them. Buck and the New York Mets sure didn't let the wintry Minnesota night slow down their swings. Buck kept up his powerful start with a grand slam, his fourth home run in the last four games, and the Mets beat the Twins 16-5 on Friday. ''You're almost starting to...

NY Mets re-tooled roster finally showing life

A season after the NY Mets ownership had to answer a lot of questions regarding their relationship with disgraced financial wizard Bernie Madoff, the Mets are finally showing some life on the field. This is probably coming to great sighs of relief to the Mets faithful, especially considering that recent free agent prizes have been busts and staff ace Johan Santana is out for another...

This Mets Team Can’t Afford Mental Mistakes

I cringed as Domonic Brown’s three-run home run in the bottom of the first inning disappeared deep into the stands at Citizens Bank Park last night. Phillies 5, Mets 0 before we even blinked. But then I realized that Citizens Bank Park is band box, and one or two big swings would get the Mets right back in the game. Sure enough, homers from the red-hot John Buck and Lucas Duda...
