What looked like a perfect opportunity for Derek Lowe to get back into a grove and the Atlanta Braves to pad their NL Wild Card lead turned into a complete nightmare last night when the Braves took on the lowly New York Mets, who sat eight games below .500 before the game. The scoring started early on for the Mets, as third basemen David Wright took a Lowe pitch 437 feet to left field, giving New York an early 2-0 lead. Looking to make the Bravos pay early on, a single by Ruben Tejada five batters later brought in Lucas Duda and Jason Bay, extending the Mets lead to 4-0. After Lowe finally found a way out of the disastrous first inning, the Braves batters showed that they were capable of keeping up with the Mets in this one, as a fly out by Chipper Jones brought in the speedy Michael Bourn and a Martin Prado homer to left field (his 12th of the season) cut New York’s lead to 4-2. Atlanta desperately needed Derek Lowe to use his success in the second inning again...
