The Guru Contributing Writer As Red Sox pitcher Felix Doubront strolls to the mound this evening in a battle for first place with the Rays, let’s hope he’s had his lucky pregame meal. Boston needs this game. Doubront has had himself quite a season so far. He’s 7-4 with a 3.74 ERA and has won 4 of his last 5 starts. The secret to his success? It’s not a change-up, a split finger or a gyro, it’s actually more of a roll really. Last week, Doubront revealed to the Boston Herald that before every home game he pitches, he chows down on a lobster roll from Steamers in Newton, Massachusetts. “I like it the day I pitch,” Doubront said. Owner Dominic Vincenzino, a lifelong Sox fan, told the Herald the southpaw has been a regular for about three years. “I recognized him two years ago when he was in the minor leagues.” Seems the lobster roll has become part of Doubront’s routine. Vincenzino, whose shop’s motto is “Come in and Get Hooked”, said in the Herald, “We don’t get too many

In nine seasons with Boston, Scott hit .257 with 154 home runs (or "taters" as he called them). Scott wore a batting helmet while fielding at first, because of experiences with road fans...

Red Sox Take 'Workman-Like' Win Over M's, 8-2

Brandon Workman Working (FenwayNation Photo)This was was pretty much a cake-walk from the second inning on, as Boston man-handled Joe Saunders and the Mariners on the way to an 8-2 victory. The win allowed Boston to keep pace with the Rays, who also won. Rookie starter Brandon Workman had yet another impressive outing—going six innings and giving up just one earned run. He had...

All Hail The Dempster

Exactly when did Ryan Dempster become the most reliable starting pitcher the Red Sox have? The dude held the Orioles at bay for five-and-a-third and the bullpen did the rest. Dempster has now given up three runs or less in ten of his last eleven starts dating back to May. Color me surprised. Meanwhile, someone wearing Stephen Drew’s uniform hit two home runs to power the struggling...

That’s because I just wrote about 2,000 words on the very...

David Ortiz Will Not Be Suspended For Destroying Phone With Bat

Big Papi will not be suspended for taking batting practice on a poor defenseless phone in the dugout. David Ortiz had a very memorable meltdown which resulted in him taking a bat and smashing the dugout phone to the bullpen into smithereens on Saturday. Reports are saying it’s unlikely Ortiz gets more than a fine for his tirades, call it fair or not. Safe to say MLB is busy...

Jake Peavy to the Boston Red Sox in a three-team deal; Iglesias to Detroit and Garcia to Chicago.

As the deadline nears we knew the Red Sox had to make a move to bolster their rotation as the uncertainity with Clay Buchholz moving forward. Game 108: Mariners at Red Sox - Workman seeks first Major League win

Ben Whitehead Contributing Writer The Boston Red Sox (63-44) are back in second place in the AL East after Monday night’s debacle in the eighth inning. Boston plays 16 games in 17 days, with 10 of them on the road, but only the Arizona...

Ryan Lavarnway, Brandon Snyder in Lineup As Red Sox Offer Different Look to Rays Starter David Price

It has been a mere five days since David Price came into Fenway Park and dominated the Red Sox lineup en route to a complete-game win. Now, he’s looking to emulate his performance that held one of the best-hitting teams in baseball to a five-hit night. Price and the Rays are back in town to make up Thursday’s rainout, and the game comes with serious implications. The Sox are...

Boston should deal top prospect for Lee

The Red Sox should trade their top prospect, infielder Xander Bogaerts, to get Phillies left-hander Cliff Lee. Trust me, Red Sox Nation wouldn't crumble. Trading a can't-miss youngster for a starting pitcher who might help you win a World Series is hardly a radical concept, and the Red Sox know it. Heck, they did it on Nov. 24, 2005, including two future stars, shortstop...
