Roy Halladay will start for the Phillies on Tuesday. (AP)
After watching him throw a 28-pitch bullpen session earlier today, Rich Dubee announced that Roy Halladay had completely recovered from his shoulder strain and will start when the team visits the Dodgers on Tuesday. Halladay–who has not started a game since May 27, and has been on the DL since May 29–will be on a pitch count, though how high that number is unclear at this time.
Halladay pitched three innings for Class-A Clearwater on Thursday and felt no soreness afterwards.
Doc’s return is a welcome one, as the team has gone just 12-27 since he’s been out, a period when the Phils really dropped out of contention for a division title or wild card birth.
The important thing at this point is getting Halladay back and throwing at 100%. He had gone 4-5 with a 3.98 ERA before landing on the DL. His performance was sub-par by the standard of his loft career numbers, but there’s no telling just how bothered Halladay was by shoulder ...

Roy Halladay will need to lead the Phillies to 7 out of 10 wins for the rest of the season for the Phils to have a shot at the playoffs. I'd be sweating, too, Roy. Photo: AP
With the Phillies’ win today against the struggling Rockies, the Fightins moved to 11 games behind co-Wild Card Leaders Atlanta and Pittsburgh with six teams in between. At this point, the Phils need to...
Phillies outfielder Juan Pierre has never been a power hitter in his career. With just 17 career home runs in his 13-year career, Pierre has always been noted as a singles hitter and speed demon on the base paths. Pierre played at the height of his career during the steroid era of baseball. In an interview with the Philadelphia Inquirer, Pierre talked about how he has played the...
Well, at least it wasn't someone TOO important. The latest 2012 Phillies casualty to the disabled list is left-handed reliever Raul Valdes. Valdes has been placed on the 15-day disabled list with a right hip strain, and left-handed reliever Joe Savery has been recalled from AAA Lehigh Valley to take his place.
Valdes has been moderately effective, going 2-2 with a 3.80...
Pitching deep into almost every game, Cole Hamels of the Philadelphia Phillies is among the best. How does Miami compare after their ace has worked? The Apocalyptic Horsemen Stats are in my daily coverage.
TAL’S HANDY STATS
I am alternating a game-day 2012 ERA For The NL East and a 2012 ERA For The MLB 5. See link section below. In each publication, the...
Reading Phillies (AA) CF Jiwan James robbed Bowie Baysox' 2B Jonathan Schoop of a hit last night when he climbed the wall, lost his glove, and appeared to catch the fly with his bare hand.

Well, the Phillies are still in last place, but Cole Hamels, with scouts in the stands, was the real deal on Sunday in a 5-1 win over the Colorado Rockies.
It was their first series win in a month.
Hamels (11-4) went eight innings, giving up six hits, one run, one walk and seven strikeouts.
With a tentative 2-0 lead in the fourth, Hunter Pence hit a three-run bomb...
I know this is a week old, but I used the All-Star Break to, well, take a break. I think with a 37-50 first half, we all needed a break.
Anyway, before the unsettling finish to the Phillies' 5-0 loss to the Braves last Friday, Ryan Howard made a triumphant return.
I was standing behind section 130 and was able to get this picture (above), which...
DENVER - Phillies left-hander Cole Hamels is facing an uncertain future. His struggling team might trade him by the July 31 deadline. Or by then, they might re-sign Hamels to a lucrative contract to keep him from becoming a free agent. Then again, Hamels might leave as a free agent after the season, once he sizes up his market. With business matters swirling about him, Hamels...
Final: Phillies 8, Rockies 5.
WP: Vance Worley (5-5, 3.47 ERA)
LP: Jeremy Guthrie (3-9, 6.14 ERA)
SV: Jonathan Papelbon (19)
For just the second time in the month of July, the Philadelphia Phillies have won a baseball game. Starter Vance Worley lasted six and two-thirds innings, as he gave up eight hits and just two earned runs.
Jonathan Papelbon came into the game in the eight...
On Friday, two players that could potentially provide some help to the big league Phillies roster this season were in action with the organization’s Gulf Coast League club, rehabbing their injuries. Right-handed reliever Justin De Fratus (elbow strain) and outfielder Domonic Brown (knee sprain) both looked good in their efforts down Florida.
De Fratus, who threw a scoreless...
The Phillies are starting the second-half of their season on the field Friday night in Colorado. They may also be starting - or ending - a major chapter in their history off the field with an offer to Cole Hamels.
Philadelphia Phillies (37-51) vs. Colorado Rockies (34-52)
Vance Worley (4-5, 3.54) vs. Jeremy Guthrie (3-8, 6.05)
Time: 8:10, Coors Field

Vance Worley will try to get the Phillies their first win after the All Star break when he takes the mound tonight in Colorado. Though Worley has excellent career numbers against the Rockies (2.25...
Vance Worley pitched into the seventh inning and hit a two-run double, Carlos Ruiz added a three-run homer, and the Philadelphia Phillies hung on to beat the Colorado Rockies 8-5 Saturday night to snap a five-game losing streak.
Worley (5-5) allowed two runs on eight hits in 6 2-3 innings. He struck out two and walked two, worked out of a bases-loaded jam in the fifth and benefited...
In the past couple of weeks there has been a lot of rumors surrounding left handed pitcher Cole Hamels. It's been said that the Phillies, in case they become sellers, could deal him as long as they can't sign him to a long-term deal.
Yesterday, Jayson Stark of ESPN.com said that the Phillies are preparing a “substantial offer” to Hamels to see if they can sign him in...
