New Fighting Illini football coach Tim Beckman received good news today when Miami defensive tackle Teko Powell committed to the program. The Illini are in need of depth along the defensive line, and Powell has the skills to help early in his career. He is excited to be joining the program.
The Fighting Illini basketball team, smarting from an embarrassing loss at Purdue last Saturday, travels to Northwestern for a Wednesday evening matchup. No Big 10 road game is easy; no current Illini player has won in Evanston. The Illini need to regain their confidence and improve their game fast to right the ship before one loss becomes two.
The Fighting Illini football team is looking to add depth to the defensive line. Today they received the commitment from Miami Norland defensive tackle Teko Powell.
The Fighting Illini defense was highly ranked nationally this year, its best showing since the early 1990's. Expectations are high for another strong defense in 2012, but new coach Tim Beckman will need to shore up some missing pieces, improve depth and integrate new schemes into the overall game plan. There is good talent returning, but is there enough to duplicate 2011?
The Fighting Illini basketball team sees fresh faces Saturday as Nebraska visits the Assembly Hall for the first time as a Big 10 conference member. The Cornhuskers have yet to win a league game in three tries, but they have the advantage of being relatively unknown to the Illini. A big, supportive crowd can help the Illini gain their third win of the young season.
