<a href="" rel=\"attachment wp-att-6083\">The Yankees have optioned infielder-outfielder Eduardo Nunez to Scranton/Wilkes Barre a.k.a Empire State Yankees, making room for Eric Chavez on the club’s active roster. Manager Joe Girardi said the Yankees want Nunez to get back to playing mostly shortstop, with some second base mixed in.

“We talked about it and said, maybe we’re asking this kid to do too much at this time in his career,” Girardi said. “…Our thought is, this kid is going to be an everyday shortstop at some point.”

The move was made after Nunez committed two errors -one fielding, one throwing – on Thursday night against the Rays, resulting in two unearned runs. Nunez was removed in the sixth inning for defense, replaced by Jayson Nix.

In three seasons with the Yankees, Nunez has committed 25 errors in various positions on the field.

Jayson Nix will be the new backup shortstop and second baseman while Chavez can back up first and third bases.

‘Don’t Stop Relieving’ is a YouTube hit

Via The Big LeadThe Mariano Rivera song made it’s debut on YouTube and was a total sensation. They took the tune from “Don’t stop believing” and set it to a Mariano Rivera theme. A New York Yankees fan decided to record and lip-sync this and we thank him for it. It is amazing.

10-K outing runs Sabathia's winning streak to five starts

In a season that has seen the New York Yankees rotation struggle to find any consistency, CC Sabathia appears to have settled into a groove. Sabathia won his fifth consecutive start Thursday, limiting the Tampa Bay Rays to two unearned runs over eight innings in a 5-3 Yankees victory. Sabathia allowed seven hits and walked one, striking out a season-high 10 batters. "Best...

2012 MLB Power Rankings – Week 5

Well another week in the 2012 MLB Season is in the books, and so far each one brings more excitement and drama than the last. And this week history was made both good and bad. First, the Yankees are learning what life is like without the greatest closer in the history of baseball. Losing Mariano Rivera to a torn ACL and a newly discovered blood clot did not just take a toll on Yankees...

Round one goes to Yankees over Mariners

NEW YORK -- The Seattle Mariners looked like the winners of the Jesus Montero-Michael Pineda trade when Pineda underwent season-ending right shoulder surgery before he threw a regular season pitch for the New York Yankees. But Raul Ibanez -- the player signed to at least partially fill the vacancy at designated hitter created by the trade of Montero -- made sure the Yankees won the...

Yankees 6, Mariners 2

NEW YORK -- Raul Ibanez hit a go-ahead three-run homer in the sixth inning, Robinson Cano continued his torrid hitting by going 4-for-4 and Hiroki Kuroda threw seven solid innings as the New York Yankees defeated the Seattle Mariners, 6-2, Friday night in front of 37,226 at Yankee Stadium. Mariners starter Felix Hernandez (3-2) bent but didn't break until Ibanez's homer...

David Robertson, Rafael Dolis Good Closer Pickups for Fantasy Baseball Team (Video)

There's been a rash of injuries to some star fantasy players this year, and many of those injuries occurred to closers. The loss of Mariano Rivera was the most recent development, as the legendary closer tore his ACL late last week. But if your fantasy team is struggling in the saves department there still are some solid options out there to grab. NESN's Julie Weatherbee...

The closer carousel is still spinning and in fact is probably picking up  steam as it goes round and...

2012 Waiver Wire – Week 6

Last week I wrote about David Robertson taking over as closer for the New York Yankees and being the guy to own based on his stuff. Unfortunately, that stuff does not always necessarily translate once the pressure of the ninth inning is added to the mix. He picked up a save Tuesday night despite allowing three base runners in an inning of work and tonight he blew a save against...
