Found April 14, 2012 on Fox Sports:
After a sluggish start to the season (3-5), the last thing the Boston Red Sox needed was a severe injury to one of its best players. Jacoby Ellsbury hit the 15-day disabled list on Saturday, but could miss up to eight weeks after he dislocated his shoulder trying to break up a double play on Friday. Bobby Valentine would not give a timetable for the outfielder's return. Remember, the Red Sox are still waiting for Carl Crawford to return from wrist surgery. For fantasy owners, Ellsbury joins a list of several impact players that are currently on the shelf. Here are my some of my favorite, widely available replacements for right now: Need runs? David DeJesus (owned in 1.7 percent of leagues), Alejandro De Aza (owned in 7.8 percent of all leagues) and Brennan Boesch (owned in 40.8 percent of leagues) Need home runs? Josh Willingham (owned in 70 percent of leagues) and J.D Martinez (owned in 24.6 percent of leagues, not sure if he can sustain that pace) Need RBI? Peter Bourjos (owend in 9.1 percent of leagues) and Bryan LaHair (owned in 3.1 percent of leagues) Need stolen bases? Jordan Schafer (owned in 9.0 percent of leagues) and Denard Span (owned in 3.3 percent of leagues) In the National League, San Francisco received some awful news on Saturday when they learned their closer and facial hair afficiendo, Brian Wilson, may need Tommy John surgery to correct some structural damage in his pitching elbow. The top two candidates to replace Wilson in the closing role are Sergio Romo and Santiago Casilla. Manager Bruce Bochey says he will go with the ever-popular closer by committee.

The Red Sox were dealt a blow during their home opener on Friday, as Jacoby Ellsbury was injured while sliding into second base. The team announced that an MRI was performed on Ellsbury, and it showed findings consistent with a subluxed shoulder. Your Morning Dump... Where we won't see Ellsbury for a while

Every morning, we compile the links of the day and dump them here... highlighting the big storyline. Because there's nothing quite as satisfying as a good morning dump. It was a grimace reminiscent of when Ellsbury broke five ribs in an April 11, 2010, collision with then-teammate Adrian Beltre. Ellsbury missed all but 18 games that season, and without their leadoff-hitting...

Boston Red Sox go from bad to worse as Ellsbury goes down

Ellsbury's shoulder injury will likely keep him sidelined for a minimum of six weeks (Tlumacki/ Boston Globe) Sometimes, hard slides just aren’t worth the risk. Efforts to disrupt a defender, whether he’s the pivot man on a double play or just an infielder trying to make a throw, are an everyday part of baseball.  And while aggressive play can be fun to watch, it can also...

Red Sox beat Rays 13-5 with 5 RBIs by Ortiz

The way Mike Aviles hit as Jacoby Ellsbury's replacement in the lineup, the Red Sox didn't have to worry about the leadoff spot. The rest of the batting order made up for his absence, too.
