Jamie Moyer asked for his release from the Orioles AAA affiliate yesterday after the team would not guarantee his promotion to the big club. It’s marked the second time this season that Moyer was released and by the looks of things he might remain that way for a little while.

And how can you blame the teams around the league?

Who, in their right mind, would want a 50 year old man that struggles to break 80 taking the mound for your team? It’s not like we’re talking about Herschel Walker or someone that doesn’t look their age. Moyer actually looks older than he really is. In this picture he looks like more like a grizzled bench coach who sits at the end of the dug out and spits chew at little kids in the first row.

What more does the guy have to prove? He came back from Tommy John surgery and won a major league game at an age where most men are taking a baby aspirin a day so they don’t have a heart attack while mowing the lawn.

You’ve had a hell of a run, Jamie. But you’re more than double the age of a lot of the guys in the MLB and like the saying goes – you’re not getting any younger. Why don’t you just stay home with your smoking hot wife and focus on the new baby? Isn’t that better than riding the buses with a bunch young kids and having to buy the team dinner every night?

Besides, you definitely don’t want your wife to have to explain to the kids that Dad can’t make it to the recital because he’s still kicking around the SouthWestern Upper Iowa Independent League.
