Eric Wedge has become the second manager of the year to be claimed by disappointing seasons. Seattle's skipper won't be back for 2014, but the decision was Wedge's and didn't come via edict from the front office. The 2013 season is Wedge's tenth overall as a big league manager, and third at the helm of the Mariners. His career record as the head man for Seattle is 212-271, and he hasn't finished higher than fourth in the AL West in his three seasons in charge. This year, the Mariners are 70-89 and in line for a top ten pick in June's MLB Draft. The 45-year old Wedge suffered a mild stroke in July and missed a month of the season as a result. It'll be interesting to see the direction the Mariners go in with their new manager. GM Jack Zduriencik will be back for the 2014 season, but will likely be on a short leash after the club struggled once again this year. Seattle will likely be a younger club once again next year, and someone like Manny Acta, formerly of the Nationals and Indians, could be a good fit. The first manager fired this year was Charlie Manuel of the Phillies, who was replaced on an interim basis by third-base coach Ryne Sandberg. Sandberg was given the full-time job for 2014 last week.
