Found April 18, 2013 on Sportress of Blogitude:
Earlier this week, Philadelphia Phillies center fielder Ben Revere made an early entry into the “Catch of the Year” debate with his magnificent effort at tracking down and catching what appeared to be a sure-fire hit by Cincinnati Reds third baseman Todd Frazier. On Wednesday, Revere demonstrated how even when he misses catches can be an awe-inspiring spectacle, due to the glorious effort he puts forth on every fielding attempt. Watch as Revere tries valiantly to race down a batted ball from Reds pitcher Mike Leake (who actually had three hits and pitched seven shutout innings in the 11-2 Reds win), but fails in spectacular fashion. Revere, appearing to be setting up somewhat shallow because Leake is, after all, a pitcher, makes a mad dash for the ball, running at full speed toward the center field wall with his back to the infield. Just as he reaches the warning track and with his back still turned, Revere leaps while awkwardly sticking his glove out in a desperate attempt to mirac...

Schierholtz/Nix Fiasco Yet Another Miscalculation

The Phillies are getting absolutely nothing out of their outfield. In 183 at-bats, Phillies outfielders are batting .219 with five home runs. Ben Revere hasn’t gotten off the ground, Laynce Nix and John Mayberry are doing pretty much what you’d expect in one outfield corner and Domonic Brown remains the wildly inconsistent, baseball version of Evan Turner. The Phillies’ outfield...

Philadelphia Phillies storyline: Phil the Phillie

Yes, there is one on the current 25-man roster of the Philadelphia Phillies:  Phillippe Aumont. However, it is a title he will have to earn, which is highly possible. TAL’S HANDY CAPS WELCOME, NEWCOMERS: By design my articles represent a baseball man’s thinking, the view from the dugout and the GM’s box. Most fans do not consider the budget, prospects on the radar, the organization’s...

John Mayberry Jr. slips, falls in hilarious display of outfield derpness (GIF)

Sometimes, it doesn’t pay to get out of the bed in the morning. But if a major league baseball player chooses to get up on one of those days, he’d be best advised to tell the manager to not put him in the lineup and instead remain in the safe confines of the dugout. Philadelphia Phillies outfielder John Mayberry Jr. probably was feeling that he was better off staying at home...

Philadelphia Phillies: 2013 ERA for the MLB 5 at game 16

There are only a few number ones in the majors like Cole Hamels of the Philadelphia Phillies. What west coast hurlers are his equal? TAL’S HANDY STATS WELCOME, NEWCOMERS: I will publish the 2013 ERA for both the NL East and the MLB 5 periodically. The number of games played by the Phillies is in the headline at the end. If you’re interested in checking out something different...

Amaro Unhappy With Offensive Approach

“I think it’s ridiculous that we’ve had no walks in three days. I cannot believe it. More importantly, it’s about not just walks, but producing, and we haven’t done that. We haven’t gotten hits, period. We haven’t gotten hits with runners in scoring position, we haven’t gotten hits to lead off innings. We need more people on base and more offensive production. You’ve...

Cardinals-Phillies Preview

Having appeared to lose their hitting stroke on the road, the Philadelphia Phillies are likely eager to return home. They might not be quite as enthusiastic to face Adam Wainwright. Looking to build on a sensational outing, the St. Louis Cardinals staff ace will try to continue his recent success against the Phillies in Thursday night's series opener. Philadelphia (6-9) batted...

Kendrick and Bailey Dazzle in Pitcher's Duel, Scoreless Ballgame Suspended Until 5:30 Tomorrow Due to Rain

Homer Bailey and Kyle Kendrick were nothing short of spectacular tonight. After an hour and twenty minute rain delay in Cincinnati, the two starters squared off, and the duel bagan. Much like last night's ballgame, the Phillies' offense was nowhere to be found. Through EIGHT innings, the Phils had gathered...

Ruiz returns for Philadelphia

Articles like this are tough to write on April 19, because you don't want to give too much weight to fast or slow starts. Over time, players with track records will usually reach their levels, so stop asking if you should trade Matt Cain, or give up the farm for Jed Lowrie. It's early, folks. With that said, here's our latest edition of Free Agent Frenzy - many owners...

You’re A Real Classy Bunch, Yankees Fans (Absolutely No Sarcasm This Time)

Actually, I should say that most baseball teams (if not all) and fans were class acts last night, as moments of silence were held in honor of the victims of the Boston Marathon bombing at ballparks across the country. More specifically, a number of parks played “Sweet Caroline” as well, as the song, of course, is a staple of Boston Red Sox and Fenway Park tradition. But because...
