Philly Buster:
Mike Sweeney retired today after 13 major league seasons, primarily with the Kansas City Royals. Sweeney was a five-time All-Star at first base and DH, retiring with 215 home runs, 909 RBIs, and a .297 lifetime batting average.
Sweeney was traded to the Phillies on August 4 of last season to provide a right-handed power bat off the bench and spell Ryan Howard at first base. Sweeney batted .231 with two home runs in 52 at-bats down the stretch.
He retired as a career 1.000 postseason hitter, going 1-for-1 last year in the NLDS against the Cincinnati Reds, his first and only postseason at-bat in his major league career.
