Found September 16, 2012 on Mets360.com:
Terry Collins has 17 pitchers to choose from and it only seemed like he used every one of them Saturday night, when he trotted eight different pitchers out to the mound in a game where the Brewers batted eight times. Some of this was unavoidable, as Jenrry Mejia did not record an out in the fourth inning. But some of it was more of Collins’ platoon advantage masturbation, which was unnecessary as always and as hurtful as we’ve become used to here in 2012. Collins now has three lefty relievers at his disposal, which must be the equivalent of giving a junkie a bag of smack. To be fair, the junkie will go through that smack as quick as he is able while Collins only used two of his three lefties out of the pen last night. But the results were about the same. I have no doubt that Collins got a quick high while chasing the platoon advantage but when it was all said and done, the high didn’t last and the final results were regrettable. Both Justin Hampson and Robert Carson were pu...

Hey, Mets! Lock up David Wright long-term already!

There is no other way to sugarcoat it. The Mets appear to be stringing along the end of the season. While it was nice for the Mets to actually score some runs and play spoiler on Friday night by defeating the Milwaukee Brewers 7-3, the Mets are once again headed towards a losing season defined by another stumble to end the season. The Mets are now 4-8 in September. Aside from R.A...

Wally Backman Talks About Matt Harvey, Says He’s Never Seen Him Pitch Like This Before

Here’s a clip from SNY of Kevin Burkhardt interviewing Wally Backman who is now part of the Mets coaching staff since the minor league season ended. The subject is Mets rookie Matt Harvey who Backman says he’s never seen him pitch like this when he was at Triple-A Buffalo, and he wonders if Harvey was just bored in the minors and probably not going full tilt. Have a look and...

Thoughts on the Garrioch Mets prospect list

My good buddy, Matt Garrioch of MLB Prospect Guide and Minor League Ball, comes out every year with his top prospect list and we both go professionally head to head with each other (it has been professional, right Matt J) over what he was smoking when he came up with some of these names. Of course, both of us are just applying opinions here, which, as the old saying goes… Matt...

Don’t Let September Get You Down

Yeah, it’s September. The elimination number on the Mets is six. On October 3, Mets baseball will become dormant for the winter as the Wilpon family and Sandy Alderson try to re-sign David Wright and R.A. Dickey to long-term contracts. Or at least that’s what I hope they’ll do. No, the Mets won’t be a .500 team this year, but that plan went moot after the Mets had horrendous...

Mets Shut Out By Brew Crew, Lose 3-0

Recap: In just the third start of Wily Peralta’s young career, the Mets were completely baffled and continued to struggle offensively as they dropped this one to the Brewers 3-0. Chris Young got the nod for Amazin’s and put together a solid effort, despite allowing home runs to both Ryan Braun and Aramis Ramirez in the fourth and a second bomb to the reigning NL MVP in the sixth...

Pre-Game: New York Mets (66-79) at Milwaukee Brewers (73-72)

This afternoon at Miller Park, the Mets will try to actually win a series.  Last night, the Mets scored some runs again, but it wasn’t enough as Jenry Mejia couldn’t find the plate and blew a 4-1 lead. Ike Davis hit a 2-run homer in the top of the 9th inning, but it wasn’t enough at the Mets fell to the Brewers 9-6.  Chris Young (4-7 4.39 ERA) will be starting for the Mets...

Wake Me Up When September Ends: Phillies 3, Mets 1

I don’t even know what to say at this point.  I supposed R.A. was jinxed the moment it was said “all he needs are TWO more wins to hit 20!”.  Well, another shot at that was blown tonight when the Mets’ offense was yet AGAIN non-existent as they return home to KryptoniteField.  To add even more salt to the ever-expanding wound, the Phillies’ win tonight cut their...

Game Preview: Phillies @ Mets

The Mets and Phillies start a series tonight as the Mets look to play spoiler for the suddenly resurgent Phillies. If you have been tuned off to baseball with the Mets decline, the Phillies have been on the rise to become mathematically relevant as the Pirates have really slid off. Tonight, R.A. Dickey will make the start as he goes against Cliff Lee. Dickey is 18-5 over 205.0...

Changing the Dynamic, One Catcher at a Time

1969. 1973. 1986. 2000. Tom Seaver. Rusty Staub. Tug McGraw. John Franco. Keith Hernandez. Darryl Strawberry. Tommie Agee. Steve “Hendu Cando” Henderson. Ron “The Dive” Swoboda. Phillies 3, Mets 1

NEW YORK -- R.A. Dickey lost a chance to move closer to the 20-win mark while the Philadelphia Phillies capitalized on an opportunity to inch closer to the second wild card spot. Domonic Brown and Jimmy Rollins homered, and Rollins scored another run after reaching on a passed ball after a strikeout as the Phillies topped the Mets 3-1 on Monday night. The victory was the Phillies...

More Thoughts On Benching Davis In Favor Of Duda Against LHP

Yesterday, Terry Collins announced that Lucas Duda will play first base against left-handed pitching for the remainder of the season. That of course translates into first baseman Ike Davis riding the pine against left-handed pitching from here on in, thus becoming a platoon player at least for the rest of this season. Knowing the type of intense player Ike Davis is, you have...
