According to what a team insider told Adam Rubin of ESPN New York, with the July 31 trade deadline three weeks away, the may not be buyers or sellers an will instead stand pat. Rubin says that Mets officials are expected to keep tabs with the Colorado Rockies about Carlos Gonzalez and the Los Angeles Dodgers about Andre Ethier. But given the tight nature of the NL West standings, those players very well won’t get traded anywhere, much less to the Mets. And there is no indication Giancarlo Stanton gets traded, either. He also likens the Marlon Byrd situation to how the Mets handled Scott Hairston last season, preferring to keep him and stay somewhat competitive despite demand from other teams. There’s been blog speculated rumors of trading Daniel Murphy or Bobby Parnell, but there’s no indication at all that the Mets would move either of them.
