TOLEDO, Ohio -- Excitement seems to follow Brandon Inge around. During Tuesday night's game in Toledo between the Mud Hens and Indianapolis Indians, a couple of unidentified fans were reportedly tossing peanuts and insults toward the Indians' dugout. An eyewitness said when an usher tried to intervene, the fans started threatening him in addition to continuing to insult the Indians. One of the fans got close enough to the dugout to throw his beer in the Indians' direction. According to the eyewitness, the beer landed partially on outfielder Jerry Sands and a television camera. Sands managed to jump the railing but his teammates prevented him from going any further. "It was just an agitated fan that took it a little too far.," Inge said before Wednesday's game. "That's all. It happens." On Wednesday, the International League suspended Sands for one game. Inge said he saw the looks on the faces of some of the children seated nearby and d...

A.J. Burnett: Anatomy of a One-Hitter

A.J. Burnett’s almost-perfect outing helped the Pirates to a 5-0 win. So many events have to go right for a no-hitter to happen. We sometimes lose sight of that, living in this Golden Age of 23 no-hitters in the last six years. Even with no-hitters becoming almost as common an occurrence as Clint Barmes home runs, they still require a potent combination of talent and good fortune...

Pirates Notebook: Top of the Lineup Heating Up

Wins are for the most part an antiquated statistic in baseball, but sometimes a win can carry a bit of significance. A.J. Burnett got his first one of the 2013 campaign Wednesday night at PNC Park, but that was not what people will remember about the game. Burnett not only got strikeout No. 2,000 for his career, he flirted with perfection and took a no-hitter into the seventh inning...

Shelby Miller, Cards face off vs. A.J. Burnett

The Pittsburgh Pirates finally scored some runs for A.J. Burnett in his most recent outing, and their offense seems to have turned the corner since that victory. Allie’s fast start has stirred much talk The season’s first two weeks have produced some noteworthy performances in the Pirates’ farm system, both good and bad. The biggest...

Game 15: Braves 6 Pirates 4

For almost the entire night, the Pirates had to play catch up in this game against the Braves. For most of the game, they did just that. BJ Upton lead the game off with a home run, the Pirates tied it on a sac fly. After the Pirates took a 2-1 lead on a long Russell Martin home run, the Braves took a 3-2 lead on a Chris Johnson homer. The Pirates tied the game back up on a moster...

Pittsburgh Pirates vs. Atlanta Braves – Game 15

All I have to say is A.J. Burnett. The guy is a freaking legend.  A folk hero.  If the Pirates manage to turn it around this season it’s in large part due to the leadership of A.J. Burnett.  He is that big of an acquisition in my opinion. The Braves are in town for four…

Pittsburgh Pirates vs. St. Louis Cardinals – Game 14
