Is it time to give up on B.J. Upton? (Credit) Dingers: Josh Donaldson (3B OAK) 64% owned in Yahoo! – A lot of people have been disregarding him for his hot start, but he needs to be owned in more leagues. The start might seem fluky, but only because he doesn’t have a great track record or minor league stats. You know what I say? Ride him while he’s hot. He has five homers, 25 RBI, along with a .316 average and a .390 OBP. Jose Fernandez (SP MIA) 44% owned in Yahoo – Fernandez has been very up and down this year, but he’s been a very reliable source of strikeouts. He won’t get many wins on the Marlins, but he has 39 Ks in 37 innings. He also only has 14 walks. Grab him and use him before Miami starts limiting his innings. There’s no risk involved and a very high reward. Jorge De La Rosa (SP COL) 15% owned in Yahoo – De La Rosa had a no-no through six innings in his last start and now has a 2.98 ERA and 28 Ks. 17 walks might seem a bit high, but most of those were early on. He needs to be owned in more leagues and is starting to revert back to pre-Tommy John form. Stingers: B.J. Upton (OF ATL) 86% owned in Yahoo – He’s only owned in this many leagues because he’s an Upton. He is nowhere near as good as his brother, Justin. He’s having one of the worst starts ever and is being paid like a superstar. I’m sure the Braves already regret this contract and fantasy owners have to regret taking him as early as he went. Unless he turns it around soon, he can’t be trusted in fantasy. He still strikes out way too much (49 Ks so far) and will never be an asset for batting average. Keep him on the bench. Jonathon Niese (SP NYM) 55% owned in Yahoo – Sources told the NY Daily News that he has been pitching through a neck injury. This may explain his brutal start to the season. He now has more walks (22) than strikeouts (21). The Mets offense is also pretty bad right now. I wouldn’t drop him just yet, but keep him benched until further notice. Bud Norris (SP HOU) 13% owned in Yahoo – Norris has been way too inconsistent to trust in mixed leagues right now. He left his last start with “back spasms” and gave up seven runs. He is such a tease in fantasy, because he has a lot of potential, but can never put it all together. Drop him or leave him on the wire for now. By: Joe Kleiber Twitter: @Chibeman
