Too many outfielders will be roaming the Arizona outfield for this fantasy baseball player’s liking.Photo by Flickr user Paul Martinez. When the Diamondbacks traded Justin Upton to the Braves, they gave Atlanta a pretty star-heavy outfield. They also seemingly lessened a logjam in their own outfield, which still has potential to be one of the better ones in the game. But remember, this is a fantasy baseball site. So, what are we thinking about the fantasy value of the remaining outfielders in the desert? Now, you’re going to see the Diamondbacks preview next week (done by yours truly) and I’ll talk about the Arizona outfield, but this situation really requires more of an in depth look. Just a reminder, Arizona is a National League team. So, with the exception of a few Interleague Play games, they’ll be going without a designated hitter. Now, the trade of Upton made the situation a little bit easier, but not much. Gerardo Parra, Jason Kubel, Adam Eaton, and Cody Ross are four outfiel...

Arizona Diamondbacks sign York Revolution slugger Chris Nowak

If you have power they will come.  Not quite the famous words uttered in Field of Dreams, but when you club 59 homers in two years with a club record 34 in one, you’re going to perk the interest of many teams and the Arizona Diamondbacks were definitely one of them.  The York Daily Record reported that the Diamondbacks as well, as many other teams were interested in Nowak...

Arizona Diamondbacks Avoid Arbitration with Martin Prado

The Arizona Diamondbacks have avoided arbitration with outfielder/third basemen Martin Prado, reports Steve Gilbert of MLB.com. The contract is for four years and 4.75 million. Prado was traded to the Diamondbacks from Atlanta in the Justin Upton trade. Prado, 29, is expected to be Arizona's starting third basemen. He played all around the diamond in 2012 for the Braves, appearing...

Prado signs four-year, $40 million extension with D-backs

As expected, the Arizona Diamondbacks signed new third baseman Martin Prado to a four-year, $40 million contract extension Jan. 31, maximizing their return in the seven-player trade that sent Justin Upton and Chris Johnson to the Atlanta Braves for Prado and four prospects the previous week. The D-backs' payroll for the 40-man roster should be about $91 million this season...

White Sox claim 1B Lars Anderson off waivers

The Chicago White Sox have claimed Lars Anderson off waivers after the first baseman was cut by the Arizona Diamondbacks last month. The 25-year-old Anderson played six games for Boston last year and went 1 for 8. He hit .250 with nine homers and 59 RBIs in 111 games for Triple-A Pawtucket and Columbus. Anderson was traded to Cleveland on July 31, and the Indians sent him to Arizona...

White Sox claim 1B Anderson

The Chicago White Sox announced Friday that they filled their 40-man roster by claiming first baseman Lars Anderson off waivers. Anderson was let go by the Arizona Diamondbacks in January. Anderson, 25, played six games for the Boston Red Sox last year, going 1 for 8 at the plate. He also batted .250 with nine home runs and 59 RBI in 111 games for Class AAA Pawtucket and Columbus...

Braves pencil in Justin Upton as No. 3 hitter

With Chipper Jones' uniform No. 10 likely to join the former third baseman in retirement, Justin Upton will switch to No. 8 in Atlanta. However, the newest Brave likely will inherit the future Hall of Famer's one-time slot in the batting order. Manager Fredi Gonzalez has already penciled in the left fielder as his No. 3 hitter, and the Braves go into spring training excited...

Prado’s Arizona Contract is Salt in His Fans’ Wounds

Justin Upton brings speed and power to the Braves line-up Martin Prado was a very popular Atlanta Brave.  The quiet man was a consumate team player, was hard as nails, and played with grit and determination. While Justin Upton is considered an excellent acquisition, many Braves’ fans are very unhappy to see Prado leave. It was bad enough when the trade was announced, but the recent...

D-backs sign Prado for four years

The Justin Upton trade suddenly looks better for the Arizona Diamondbacks. The D-Backs locked up infielder/outfielder Martin Prado on Thursday, signing him to a four-year contract. The deal, which was announced by the team, is for $40 million, according to a major-league source. Prado, 29, was the most significant piece that the Diamondbacks acquired for Upton in a seven-player...

Burning questions facing Braves third basemen

For all the positives -- both short- and long-term -- that can be derived from the Braves' celebrated acquisition of Justin Upton last week, there is one consequence to ponder when looking at Atlanta's updated depth chart: What will become of third base? Last month, my colleague Zach Dillard penned an excellent Burning Questions regarding the state of the Braves at third...

Braves Line-Up Resembles Steak and Ice Cream

The Braves line-up will be on a power trip this season I really want to get excited about the trade that brought Justin Upton to Atlanta.  What is strange, is that I really like Justin Upton, and think he will do great things for the Braves.  Upton could potentially be the Braves’ best position player. So why am I not yet “all in” on this Justin Upton trade? To borrow a basketball...

Braves vs Nats: Whose lineup is stronger?

Recently, we pointed out how strong this Atlanta lineup has a chance to be. But how does the Braves lineup compare to that of the defending NL East Champion Washington Nationals? Good question! Let’s have a look. As with our most recent post, we’ll borrow Bill James’ projections. Again no one’s projections ever prove entirely accurate–or even close to it. But James’ prognostications...
