Mixed-league roto owners, are you looking for a waiver-wire pitcher before Wednesday's slate of games?
Here's my free-agent choice (citing most 12-team leagues) for one day of relatively fantasy stardom. Truth be told, though, the crop of free-agent hurlers isn't so plentiful today:
Phil Hughes, Yankees (vs. Dodgers)
1. Of his last five outings, Hughes has allowed three or less runs four times.
2. Since April 23, spanning 10 starts, Hughes has registered six-plus strikeouts six times.
3. Hughes has four advantages for Wednesday:
a. He's pitching at home;
b. The Dodgers don't have Matt Kemp in the lineup (hamstring);
c. Hanley Ramirez hasn't batted his weight in six weeks;
d. Since this is the Dodgers' first regular-season trip to Yankee Stadium in like forever, the majority of L.A. players have never encountered Hughes.
