ARLINGTON, Texas The possible pursuit of pitching took another twist for the Texas Rangers Sunday. Right-hander Neftali Feliz, who was slated to make his fourth rehab start for Triple A Round Rock, was scratched from the outing because of soreness in his right elbow. The club is awaiting word from the team's medical staff to decide on the next step for Feliz, who is on the disabled list with a sprained right UCL. Despite the Feliz setback, the Rangers are going forward with their plans to stretch out right-hander Alexi Ogando. Ogando, who pitched 2 23 innings Friday, is a potential starting candidate especially if the Rangers can't make a trade before Tuesday's deadline for starting pitching. "We get Ogando stretched out," Texas manager Ron Washington said. "We don't actually know what we're going to do but we're just trying to keep our options open." Had Feliz remained healthy, the club could have put him in the bullpen when he was r...

Josh Hamilton praying for fans booing him amid slump

Josh Hamilton is in the middle of an ugly stretch, hitting just .190 since the start of June and failing to get a single hit with runners in scoring position in July. Rangers fans are starting to get cranky. Boos emanating from the crowd at the Ballpark in Arlington are beginning to be noticeable and are growing. Hamilton, of course, has heard the booing, and he says he’s not...

Hamilton remains upbeat despite rough week

ARLINGTON, Texas A tough week for Texas slugger Josh Hamilton took another turn Saturday when he was given what Texas manager Ron Washington termed a mental day off. Hamilton is hitting .284 on the season and batting .206 over the last 55 games. That .206 number is better than the current slide he's in as Hamilton is hitting just .119 over the last 16 games and has 19 strikeouts...

Loss doesn't overshadow season for Harrison

ARLINGTON, Texas There was a time when the Rangers' struggles on offense might have affected starter Matt Harrison. Harrison has since become a more focused pitcher, but it didn't help in Saturday's 5-2 loss to the White Sox that he had a slightly below-par performance in an otherwise stellar season. While the Rangers where 0-for-13 with runners in scoring position...

Hamilton hears boo-birds in Arlington

A new chapter in Josh Hamilton's long slump began Friday night. Call it the booing stage. For the first time since he joined the Texas Rangers, Hamilton was booed noticeably at Rangers Ballpark in Arlington. The boos came following a pair of strikeouts Friday in Texas' 9-5 loss to the Chicago White Sox. Hamilton went 0-for-4 to extend his current drought to 0-for-12....

Josh Hamilton’s Issues Continue

Josh Hamilton’s poor play in July came to a head on Saturday.  The Texas Rangers All-Star was held out of the lineup against the Chicago White Sox on Saturday night, due to what manager Ron Washington called “a mental break.” There are no reported injuries being attributed to Hamilton’s lack of production this month.  Hamilton himself has credited this slump to a lack of...

Rangers activate Moreland, option OF Martin

ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) -- The Rangers have activated first baseman Mitch Moreland from the disabled list and optioned outfielder Leonys Martin to Triple-A Round Rock. Moreland was in the lineup for Monday night's game against the Los Angeles Angels. He has been out since June 19 when he strained his left hamstring running out a ground ball in San Diego. Moreland is hitting ...

Report: Geovany Soto Traded to Texas Rangers For Minor League Pitcher Jacob Brigham

In a mostly unsurprising move on Monday, Geovany Soto was traded to the Texas Rangers less than a day before the trade deadline. Midway through the Cubs' opener of their three game homestand with the Pittsburgh Pirates, the 29-year-old catcher was reportedly dealt to Texas for minor league pitcher Jacob Brigham. Soto has been struggling lately, batting only .199 with six homers...

Oswalt struggles, Angels shell Rangers 15-8

Roy Oswalt gave the Rangers another reason to look for pitching help at the trade deadline. Angels switch hitter Kendrys Morales became only the third major-league player to homer from each side of the plate in the same inning - one off Oswalt - during a nine-run sixth of a 15-8 Los Angeles victory. Mike Trout went 2 for 5 with a home run, four RBIs, three runs scored and a walk...

Rangers 2, White Sox 0

Scott Feldman tied a career high by pitching eight shutout innings in helping the Texas Rangers snap a two-game skid with a 2-0 victory over the Chicago White Sox on Sunday. David Murphy had three hits, including a double, and Josh Hamilton and Nelson Cruz each scored a run for the Rangers, who host a four-game series against the Los Angeles Angels in a West Division showdown starting...

Rangers’ offense remains flat

Another night.  Another bad performance by the Rangers’ offense.  Another lost game. (By the way, I got to watch this one.  By some miracle, it was not blacked out.) Matt Harrison held his own for the first three innings.  Even though the bats weren’t doing anything, he was giving them every chance to get in it.  I guess he gave up after that because the White Sox got five...

Feldmania powers past Sox

Wow, Scott Feldman.  I’ve missed this version of you. Eight innings. 88 pitches.  Seven hits.  Five strikeouts. No runs. That kind of outing was definitely what Mike Maddux ordered.  With the offense still sputtering to get it together, the pitchers have to work extra hard to keep their opponents from scoring a ton.  And that’s what Feldman did tonight. Feldman looked completely...

Neftali Feliz to have Tommy John surgery

Well, that Ryan Dempster trade couldn't have come at a better time. A little over an hour after acquiring the Cubs starter, Jesse Sanchez of MLB.com broke the news that Rangers starter Neftali Feliz will require Tommy John surgery. Based on the recovery time for the surgery, Feliz will miss the rest of this season, and if he does come back next year, it won't be until...

Neftali Feliz needs season ending Tommy John surgery

Texas Rangers fans were given some bad news after the team acquired Ryan Dempster from the Cubs, as it was announced by General Manager Jon Daniels that pitcher Neftali Feliz will require season ending Tommy John surgery for a torn UCL ligament in his throwing elbow. This news comes on the heels of the announcement that fellow pitcher Colby Lewis would require Tommy John surgery...

Rangers allow 9-run sixth to hot-hitting Angels

ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) -- Kendrys Morales homered from both sides of the plate during a nine-run sixth inning, capping the burst with a grand slam that sent the Los Angeles Angels romping past the Texas Rangers 15-8 Monday night. Morales became the third switch-hitter in major league history to homer as a lefty and righty in the same inning. Carlos Baerga did it for Cleveland in...
