Houston Astros starter Jordan Lyles had little explanation for how it all went wrong. How he went from two great starts (3 runs in 13 1/3 innings) to the debacle of Monday night when he gave up seven runs on nine hits in four innings against the Pittsburgh Pirates. For that matter, it changed within the 11-2 loss at PNC Park, as Lyles didn't surrender a hit the first time through the order and then gave up nine hits in the Pirates' last 12 at-bats against him. "Nothing I can put my finger on," Lyles said. "I thought they were decent pitches." He did admit a couple of mistakes as the Astros gave up four in the fourth inning and four in the fifth. Perhaps the biggest takeaway might have been that there was nothing obviously wrong. "This is just a bump," manager Brad Mills said. Altuve an All-Star Lee a ???

In the midst of continuing their season long road woes while dropping three straight to the Cubs on Sunday the Astros had others news notes worth following. First of all, congratulations to second baseman Jose Altuve for being named a reserve for the 2012 National League All Star team. The honor was well deserved for the .300-hitting spark plug. Unfortunately, his teammate, Jed...

How should the Astros handle Carlos Lee?

Most people considered Major League to be a comedy, but I considered it to be a documentary. When you have people you want to get rid of you have to know how to do it. Sometimes, people aren’t given the great gift of self-awareness and Carlos Lee is one of those people. The Astros have reportedly consummated two trades this season involving Lee and yet he still won’t...

Sources: Dodgers kill Lee trade talks

The Dodgers have pulled out of trade talks regarding Carlos Lee, according to sources, who say the Astros slugger's lack of enthusiasm over the potential move drove the Dodgers' decision. After Saturday's 3-2 loss to the Cubs, Lee said he would talk it over with his wife and ''probably'' have a decision by Sunday. Lee, who is in the final year of a six...

Continued problems for the Astros on the road

The Pittsburgh Pirates look like one of the best teams in baseball. I guess they should since they are battling for the top of a major league baseball division. The Astros look like... uh, they look like... I can't make myself say it. To be tactful they just don't look very good right now. Nothing goes right for them. If the pitching is good the hitting takes the night...
