The NL Rookie of the Year vote was cast, and to the surprise of few, Washington Nationals OF Bryce Harper took home the award. It was certainly more contested than the AL vote, which easily went to Los Angeles OF Mike Trout. While the AL vote was down to Trout, Yonesis Cespedes and Yu Darvish, the NL vote should have been down to more than just Harper, Arizona LHP Wade Miley and Cincinnati 3B Todd Frazier. But, because of the “finalists”, others did not get the consideration they deserve. ——————————————————————————– On my podcast, I mentioned how I like the whole idea of using finalists to narrow down certain awards. It worked very well for the Gold Gloves, making it less of a popularity contest and more of a comparison of players defensive seasons and abilities.
