As if things couldn’t have started worse for the New York Yankees, in addition to losing 2 of 3 to the Boston Red Sox to start the season, the Scranton/Wilkes Barre RailRiders have lost their first three games to the Boston Red Sox AAA Pawtucket squad and after tonight’s game, a significant grass fire was started after postgame fireworks outside PNC Stadium.  New York Yankees minor league beat writer Nicole Sorce in a series of tweets (including photos):   Fireworks at the #RailRiders game started a forest fire behind PNC Field. Wow. #Scranton twitter.com/nicolesorce/st… — Nicole Sorce (@nicolesorce) April 7, 2013   It’s still burning. #RailRiders #Scranton — Nicole Sorce (@nicolesorce) April 7, 2013   The fire is out at PNC Field. Apparently this happened last night, too. Nobody was injured. #RailRiders #Scranton — Nicole Sorce (@nicolesorce) April 7, 2013   It just hasn’t been a good weekend for the #RailRiders… — Nicole Sorce (@nicolesorce) April 7, 2013 Her last tweet could not have summed it up better (as the big league New York Yankees have lost 2 more and are in the cellar of the AL East at 1-4) -Dave (@lhd_on_sports) Follow us on Twitter @rbts_baseball The post Fireworks start brush fire at New York Yankees AAA stadium appeared first on Reading Between The Seams.

Can the Yankees 1-3 start be attributed to Derek Jeter taking up a roster spot? New York needs a youth movement.

Derek Jeter has been an important part of the New York Yankees organization for the last 18 seasons. He could be one of those players who doesn’t know when it is time to get out. Jeter has yet to play a game in the 2013 season and it is yet to be determined when he will be able to play. Now reports coming out of New York have Yankees manager Joe Girardi saying Jeter needs a mini...

Yankees Game 5 Lineup: 4/6/13

Phil Hughes will make his first start of the season today, as the Yankees will take on the Tigers from Comerica Park in Detroit. Hughes was originally going to start for Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre today, but the Yankees need arms – David Phelps will become the long-man out of the pen. Manager Joe Girardi will go with the same lineup as yesterday, except Vernon Wells will start...

Old Yankees phone number is now a sex chat line

Fans calling a toll-free phone number once used by the New York Yankees ticket office expecting to score some seats over their cell phones might be in for a real shock. Instead of getting Derek Jeter or CC Sabathia in a pre-recorded greeting, fans will be enticed by a woman's voice prompting them to a sex chat line. A Google search for "Yankees box office phone number"...

Pitching Is To Blame For The New York Yankees Record

The New York Yankees are 2-4 after six games.  I know it is only six games and you really can’t judge after that.  There is a lot of panic in Yankee land and a lot of people saying I told you so.  I am not really one of those people because I believe that the Yankees will be able to hang in there until they get some of their stars back and then they can fully compete with the...

Yankees: Please you have to stop this now

Stop it!   Please I am begging you to stop. Oh and drop the act like you don’t know what I am talking about. The New York Yankees have to stop losing, today. Everybody knows that the Bronx Bombers are dealing with an unprecedented number of injuries to big players. But that is no excuse, as Yankees ownership knows better. Hal Steinbrenner could have spent some money in the off...

New York Yankees’ Triple-A affiliate starts big fire after fireworks celebration

The Yankees are having a rough season, and so are their triple-A affiliates, who started a huge fire behind their ballpark on Saturday.

Yanks Old Guard Rise to the Challenge

The walls were starting to close in on the Yankees after the first two games of the season. An 0-3 start would not have doomed their season, but combined with all the injuries the club has sustained the feeling of a lost season in the making would only have grown stronger. It would be easy to say that last night Andy Pettitte and Mariano Rivera turned back the clock. It would also...

The odd, the hurt & the older

photo credit: bleacherreport.com The analysts, experts, baseball fans, and maybe science itself don’t think the Yankees will be good this year. With the massacre of injuries and both an April starting lineup and starting rotation, with an average age of about only 33 years old (you’d think it would be higher, I know) and a couple of old guys, one would say the 27-time-Champion...
