Nick Johnson was a favorite of ours during his star-crossed years with the Nats, and after a few years of kicking around with the Marlins, Yankees and AAA Columbus(!), he’s back in the DMV, this time with Baltimore. And, as he did four years ago, he’s growing some delicious lip fur. Johnson and his mustache made their O’s debut Saturday, and he ended up starting two of three games in the opening series (one at first base and one at DH). Here’s to many more in 2012, so long as he can somehow stay healthy and continue getting on base at his career .400 clip. Now, more pics of Nick Johnson and/or his mustache in Orioles uniform! Guerrero turns himself over to police

Former major-leaguer Vladimir Guerrero says he has turned himself over to police in the Dominican Republic after reportedly being involved in a scuffle with a police officer in a disco. In a phone interview with The Associated Press, Guerrero denied he was involved in any attack. A spokesman for the police in the Dominican Republic, Maximo Baez Aybar, said no charges have been...

Orioles Dylan Bundy Dominates In Pro Debut

Dylan Bundy‘s Orioles debut for the Delmarva Shorebirds versus the Asheville Tourists, a Rockies affiliate, marked the start of a fourth season scouting prospects in the South Atlantic League. In previous years, highly ranked pitching prospects have come and gone, bringing with them reportedly unhittable “stuff”. In most cases, those arms never live up to advanced billing as...

Orioles fan celebrates Matt Wieters HR by flipping the bird (Video)

A Baltimore Orioles fan was caught flipping the bird with both hands to no one in particular (but presumably towards the visiting Minnesota Twins) after catcher Matt Wieters hit a home run in Saturday night's game in Camden Yards. (Disclaimer: Holdout Sports does not condone this type of behavior.) It happened in the bottom of the seventh inning as Wieters' home...

Should The Orioles Look At Brandon Allen?

The Orioles are not expected to get much production from first-base this year (again). Totally unrelated news... 26 year-old first-baseman Brandon Allen was just put on waivers by the Oakland A's. Allen, a big left-handed swinger, doesn't have a great deal of major league playing time; in 374 career plate appearances he's hit just .205/.291/.375 and struck out almost...

Vladimir Guerrero arrested in Dominican Republic

Former MVP and nine-time All Star Vladimir Guerrero was arrested in the Dominican Republic Tuesday for allegedly assaulting a police officer after a brawl at a nightclub in the city of Bani. Guerrero will be charged with physical and verbal assault of a police officer and is currently in custody. The 37-year-old had to turn himself in to authorities after an all-points bulletin was...

Andino says he wasn't tipping pitches vs Yankees

Orioles second baseman Robert Andino says he wasn't tipping the location of pitches in Baltimore's game against the New York Yankees on Monday night. Andino and New York catcher Russell Martin had an angry exchange after the Yankees' 6-2 win. Andino hit a leadoff double off Mariano Rivera in the ninth inning and did not advance. Andino said Tuesday that Martin accused...

Enjoy the sweep, enjoy it!

The Orioles swept the Twins and emotions are running high. They swept the Twins by way of three fantastic starting pitching performances: 22IP/ 3R/ 1ER/ 10H/ 12K/ 6BB. For a team that many national writers expect to lose 100 games and have one of the worst pitching staffs in recent baseball history - that is a very good start. Yet, the refrain I am hearing from too many people is...

There is Hope for the O’s

If you would have told me that the Baltimore Orioles would sweep the Minnesota Twins in their opening series and their starting pitchers would throw 22 innings and only allow 1 run, I would have told you to put down the case of Natty Boh. Starting pitching is the biggest concern for the Orioles this year as they had seemingly downgraded the position after trading away Jeremy Guthrie...

Game 3: Orioles 3, Twins 1

With the series win already in their pocket, the O's went for the sweep in what seemed like a favorable match-up.The Good: Jason Hammel. Wow. Groundout after groundout after easy groundout. Takes a no-hitter into the 8th inning of his Orioles debut (while facing the minimum, thanks to a pair of double plays). The heater had some giddy-up (93-94, 3 whiffs) and his breaking...

Matusz Against the Evil Empire

Tonight at Camden Yards, the Evil Empire – aka, the New York Yankees – come into town for a three game series. Well, the Yankees are winless on the season and after being outplayed by the Tampa Bay Rays, they’ll be hoping for a reprieve in Baltimore. However, the Orioles have been playing very well – having earned a series sweep over Minnesota. In an earlier post James...
